JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS :
Shaver's Creek Environmental Center is looking for Leaders for its AURORA Programs.
These Leaders have an array of responsibilities including, but not limited to :
Teaching and instruction of students
Group and time management
Risk assessment and decision-making
Trip management of trip logistics
Other duties as assigned
Leader must be able to clearly instruct students on skills of backpacking and backcountry living. These include technical skills such as cooking and setting up shelters, as well as backcountry ethics that ensure a limited impact on the natural world.
Leaders must be able to manage this teaching role with the responsibilities of managing a group in the backcountry. This includes real-time risk assessment, time management, provision of first-aid care (as needed), and more.
Leaders also mentor and support students as they experience their transition to college life and explore their own leadership opportunities.
Qualifications include group management experience, Wilderness First Aid and CPR / AED certifications, driver’s license, and ability to drive a vehicle.
