UD Librarian About the Park School The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA dedicated to excellence in education. The cornerstone of Park's program is academic excellence, combining both high standards of scholarship and the encouragement of each child to develop to their greatest potential. The Park School Library holds a central and valued place within the school as a busy site for interdisciplinary learning and the exploration of ideas. The librarians are committed to developing a collection of diverse materials; creating a welcoming, inspiring community space; and continually seeking and sharing new knowledge in the education and information fields. The Upper Division Librarian reports to the Head of the Upper Division and works in a department of four led by the Director of the Library. The ideal candidate will bring a history of collaborative, self-directed work, strong teaching skills, a sense of mission about the future of libraries, and experience with academic technology integration. Roles & Responsibilities * Teach research skills required to locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize and use information from a variety of sources * Empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers and ethical users and producers of information * Actively engage the community in multiple perspective taking, by providing access to and recommendations for a diverse set of resources * Work with faculty and students to evaluate, promote and use existing and emerging resources and technology * With a focus on Upper Division, create community learning experiences, including reading initiatives and celebrations, author visits, hands-on learning activities and projects integrating digital resources * Participate in faculty and committee work, school duties, and extra activities such as clubs and assemblies * Transport and shelve books in a multi-level library space * Establish and implement expectations for student safety and conduct; and procedures and routines, consistent with School policies * Collaborate with all Park School employees as appropriate * Participate in and contribute to an adult learning community by engaging in meetings, discussions, committees, task forces, and professional development. * Complete administrative tasks and coverage duties as assigned (student supervision, attendance, reporting, documenting curriculum, etc.) * Utilize feedback and reflection to improve practice and performance * Ensure that respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion, social emotional learning, and academic excellence are emphasized as core values of the School * Participate in school community activities * Meet expectations as listed in Park School's Essential Expectations Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree preferred. * Strong understanding of libraries. Experience preferred. * Three (3) to five (5) years of teaching experience at the middle school level is preferred. * Strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and other adults * Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing * Demonstrated experience working in a culturally diverse community * Motivation for and interest in professional development * Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and learning * Previous experience and/or interest in athletic coaching or supporting student-led clubs, organizations and events Application Information * To apply, visit the posting on our careers page and click apply.
