Overview of Position

Osborn is a fully integrated multi-disciplined design firm that uses a specialized team approach to engineering projects. Osborn Engineering is seeking a Senior Plumbing Engineer/Designer with 7-10 Years experiencefor our Pittsburgh office locationwho will report tothe Manager of Mechanical. The ideal candidate would have strong working knowledge of Revit and Plumbing design in the Consulting Engineering or Sub-Contracting environment.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead the plumbing design with support staff on a variety of projects such as Healthcare/Labs, Industrial, Education, Institutional, and Commercial.
  • Design plumbing systems including piping and equipment selections for various building types and sizes.
  • Coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines, architects, owners/clients, and work in conjunction with project managers to help complete project plumbing scopes.
  • Author reports for internal and external purposes based on findings of site investigations and/or project meetings.
  • Prepare construction drawings for plumbing systems from schematic through the construction document phases.
  • Specify plumbing equipment.
  • Review selective shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Interface effectively with clients and members of the project team and attend Owner, Architect, Contractor (OAC) meetings.
  • Perform Quality Assurance / Quality Control on projects assigned.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and designers and provide direction for preparation of plumbing designs and documents.
  • Understanding, continued learning and application of relevant trends and standard methodologies in the field of Plumbing Design.
  • Strong knowledge of Plumbing Codes and Uniform Plumbing Codes, National Fuel Gas Code, relevant building codes, sustainability, green building rating systems, industry standards. LEED compliance documentation is a plus.
  • Additional Consideration for Candidates with experience in Laboratory, Process, Laundry, Kitchen and Healthcare systems, nationally recognized standards and codes including FGI Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospitals (2018), NFPA 55; Compressed Gases and Cryogenic Fluids, and NFPA 99; Healthcare Facilities Code with detailed knowledge of compressed and distributed medical healthcare and laboratory based gasses, RO/DI and other filtration systems, acid waste, clarifiers, neutralization systems and any HealthCare Medical Gas certifications, ASSE Series 6000 or other.

Job Requirements/Qualifications

  • 7 – 10 Years of experience in Plumbing Design in Consulting Engineering or Sub-Contracting.
  • Excellent Organizational and Communication skills.
  • Proactive and Collaborative team member.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing design and calculation resources.
  • Proficient in Revit and AutoCAD for modeling and drawing creation.
  • Proficient knowledge of specifications.
  • Proficient knowledge of local and national building codes and design practices.
  • Proficient knowledge of standard construction practices and the ability to work with contractors to address construction issues.
  • Experience in designing Healthcare, Sports, Commercial, Public Sector, Industrial, Education, and/or Institutional projects.
  • CPD or CPDT a plus.
  • Fire Protection experience a plus.
