5 Door Recovery, a Residential Alcohol and Drug Treatment program, has an immediate opening for a Primary Counselor to support clients while in recovery Sunday through Thursday during daytime hours. This position is responsible for providing a range of assessment, diagnostic, therapeutic and case management services for adults living with substance use disorder and psychiatric illness and providing therapeutic and community resources for affected family members. We are currently offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus!

Principle Accountabilities

Individual Services

  • Develops an effective therapeutic alliance with clients through regular, consistent, and meaningful interactions and clinical sessions.
  • Collects data about the individual through interview, case history, assessments, and/or observational techniques; evaluates the data to identify the causes of problems and to determine the proper therapeutic approach or referral to other agencies.
  • Establishes diagnostic impressions, and develops and implements an individualized treatment plan guided by the individual's strengths, goals, and social support to improve individual's ability to gain and maintain abstinence from all substances of abuse and to stabilize psychiatric illness if appropriate and within the agency's scope of practice.
  • Creates a structured and progressively graduated treatment plan including individualized therapeutic assignments to develop a knowledge base regarding addiction, the interaction of psychiatric illness with addiction, and relapse prevention techniques.
  • Provides casework management of a maximum assigned caseload of ten (10) clients, as appropriate to the needs of the individual client; serves a liaison between the client and needed community resources, and performs referrals for services after discharge as needed.
  • Facilitates individual therapy and group therapy sessions and leads psycho-educational groups on a weekly basis as assigned.
  • Responds to client conflicts involving individuals or groups while ensuring the safety of all residents and maintaining the integrity of the treatment environment.
  • Develops and formulates a comprehensive aftercare plan for individuals to support on-going recovery from addiction and psychiatric illness.
  • Participates in weekly clinical staffing/utilization reviews and monthly medical staffing meetings with the interdisciplinary team of providers; sharing feedback and recommendations pertaining to resident's recovery, case management, and treatment needs.
  • Documents therapy sessions and treatment and discharge plans in an electronic health record according to all applicable agency, county, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Completes ongoing insurance reviews/extensions and collaborates with funding sources (insurance, county human services, private payers) in coordination of treatment services and aftercare planning.

Program Management

  • Assists in monitoring agency compliance with applicable policy, guidelines, and laws.
  • Participates in the development of treatment protocols and assists with contributing to training manuals for staff, as well as interns, to adhere to for guidance.
  • Participates in evaluating program effectiveness and individual satisfaction with services.
  • Recommends and/or assists in development of new programs designed to meet emerging individual and community needs, as appropriate.
  • Provides guidance and clinical consultation to co-workers and 5 Door Recovery employees surrounding the presentation and appropriate individual care for individuals with co-occurring disorders.

Other

  • Participates in ongoing professional development through training, college courses, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Maintains applicable certifications.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a behavioral health field such as social work, psychology, professional counseling, or relevant field from an accredited program and/or educational institution.
  • Minimum of a training certificate in Social Work, Professional Counseling, Psychology, or Marriage and Family Counseling and a Substance Abuse Counselor-In-Training license granted by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practices commonly used in substance use disorder treatment, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, 12-Step support programs, and similar therapies.
  • Proficiency in documentation, communication, time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse staff and excel in a multi-cultural environment, both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish or Hmong are highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with purpose of the ASAM criteria.
  • Working knowledge and utilization of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual V for diagnostic purposes.
