Description

The Northwest School is a college-preparatory, co-educational independent school near the heart of downtown Seattle. We offer a rich and challenging program to about 450 students in grades 6 through 12, including international students, many of whom live in our campus dormitory.

Summer Camp at Northwest is fun and engaging and offers a variety of classes. At The Northwest School Summer Camp, 10- to 16-year-olds from across the world join their peers from Seattle to have fun, make lasting friendships and become global citizens.

Summer Camp dates: candidates must be available through the entire duration

o July 1-3, July 6 Training

o July 7-August 16 includes three camp sessions

Essential Functions:

Supervise dormitory summer campers; aged 12-16, including leading activities, supervising meal periods, responding to needs and emergencies

Provide an environment that's safe, friendly, and comfortable

Monitor and ensure appropriate student behavior

Submit reports on behavior and safety issues

Attend and participate in staff meetings and training sessions

Oversee check-in and check-out of campers, including room turn-over cleaning or airport transfer

Duties specific to Lead Overnight shifts, 12am-8am

o Remain awake throughout the night to ensure camper safety and response.

o Complete regular building rounds to ensure camper safety.

o Make sure campers remain in their rooms and enforce lights out & wake-up times

o Submit shift logs to appropriate administration at the end of the shift.

Duties specific to overnight sleep shift, 12am-8am

o Spend the night in the dorm

o Wake up when needed to assist in emergencies

o Help campers wake up in the morning in time to get ready for the day before breakfast

Duties specific to evening Lead Residential Assistant (RA), 3:30pm-12am

o Ensure campers and staff know the plan for each day’s activities

o Communicate with Camp and School administration in case of emergency

o Track details for evening activities like expenses, tickets, supply needs, and group assignments

Qualifications


Basic Qualifications (Required):

All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the school’s mission, values, and philosophy, especially related to diversity, equity, and inclusion; environmental sustainability, and global perspective

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Experience working with people from various cultures and backgrounds

Experience working in a Summer Camp setting

18 years old for evening counselors. Overnight and Lead RA must be 21 years old

Ability to work evenings and weekends

Preferred Qualifications:

Fluency in Second language, esp Mandarin, Japanese, Spanish or Russian

Previous experience working at an overnight summer camp or NWS boarding program

Willingness and Ability to meet requirements to drive small bus or mini-van (training provided)

Shift times are generally 3pm-11pm or 4pm-12am for evenings and 12am-8am for overnights, some variation may be scheduled for shift overlaps. Schedules will be set by the beginning of camp at Orientation.

Compensation:

Salary is highly competitive with top independent schools in the region and commensurate with education and experience and includes all professional responsibilities of a teacher, both in the classroom and community contributions. The hourly rate for this position ranges from $19.97 to $22.58 per hour, based on skills and qualifications.

Lunch is provided daily during camp sessions
