Summer Youth Employment Program

Worksite Location: Hood River/ The Dalles

Work Schedule: Seasonal (June 3rd – August 15th ); Full-Time; 35 – 40 hours per week; Monday - Thursday

Salary Range: $20 per hour

Reports to: Youth Services Department Manager

Who we are looking for?

We are looking for someone who is reflective, respectful, intuitive, honest, and self-motivated. We’re looking for someone who is able to connect and build trust quickly with a variety of people. We’re also looking for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, knows how to prioritize tasks, and can work independently as well as part of a team.

What you will do…

• Lead and work with a crew of 5 community youth outside for 8 weeks
• Manage and lead a team of five or six youth crew members at various worksites within the Mt. Hood National Forest and Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area
• Complete projects as assigned. Projects may include trail construction and maintenance, landscaping, planting, wetlands/bank/stream restoration, invasive species (weed) removal, construction, and painting objects.
• Improve awareness and understanding of the local environment via guest speakers, daily activities, and presentations
• Lead team building, recreational, and enrichment activities
• Collaborate with community partners that are monitoring, directing, and interested in work
• Other duties as assigned by the Youth Services Department Manager

Education, Experience, and Requirements you need…

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Must be at least 21 years old
• Experience working with youth
• Must be available all 8 weeks of the program
• Interest in working outdoors
• Successful completion of a comprehensive background check
