The New York Milk Bank is dedicated to improving the health and survival of infants in need by providing them with safely pasteurized donor human milk when their mothers’ own milk is unavailable or insufficient. We are dedicated to ensuring the safety and quality of donor milk and to reducing health disparities in the use and distribution of donor milk.

The New York Milk Bank is the first comprehensive nonprofit milk bank in New York State. We collect milk from generous and carefully screened donors, pasteurize it and distribute it to infants in need at NICU’s in the Tri-state area and the surrounding area. The Bilingual Donor Coordinator is an essential role that supports achieving our mission by ensuring the collection, quality, and safety of milk donated to the milk bank. This position will work closely with donors as well as the community to help raise greater awareness of the NY Milk Bank and the services we offer.

This amazing career opportunity requires fluency in both Spanish and English (written and verbal content) with the ability to translate English to Spanish and Spanish to English. A meticulous eye for proper grammar and spelling is a must!

Role:

Donor Screening & Engagement (90%-75%): The Bilingual Donor Coordinator is a critical team member responsible for screening potential milk donors in English and Spanish. The coordinator will engage with milk donors using excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as diplomacy and sensitivity. They will also receive, check in, and record milk donations when they arrive at the New York Milk Bank offices. Additionally, they will coordinate sending materials to our donors and our 28 milk collection sites across NY State (Milk Depots).

Project Management (10%-25%): The NY Milk Bank is seeking to ensure our services are fully accessible in Spanish. The Bilingual Donor Coordinator will provide project management oversight to establish all the necessary materials and procedures to ensure that accessibility.

Job Responsibilities Include:

● Develop deep understanding of donor screening process and guidelines

● Screen potential milk donors via telephone

● Keep milk donor records up-to-date, including emailing and faxing

● Receiving, unpacking/checking in, and recording milk donations

● Coordinate activities with NYMB milk collection sites throughout New York State

● Keeping track of cleaning supplies and participating in weekly deep clean of receiving area

● Support Community Events and attend conferences as needed

● Design and implement community outreach activities

● Other duties as assigned

● Project management Phase I: coordinate the translation of the donor screening process in Spanish, including relevant website materials and information packets

● Project management Phase II: coordinate the translation of outpatient/recipient requests to Spanish including relevant website materials and information packets

Job Qualifications:

● Work experience: Candidates will have relevant work experience such as patient care representative

● Education: College level education preferred

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish

● Maintains confidentiality and comfortable discussing sensitive material

● Project management experience

● Able to follow established protocols with significant attention to detail

● Able to learn new tasks and multi-step processes in a fast-paced environment

● Excellent time management skills

● Working knowledge of Google Workspace and Microsoft Office

● Able to maintain clean conditions according to protocols

● Ability to lift 30 pounds on a regular basis

● Ability to stand for long periods of time

Job Type: Full-time, non-exempt, on-site position. Monday-Friday 8:30 AM-5:00 PM
