The New York Foundling is Hiring a Senior Education Specialist - EFFC Near Brooklyn, NY

The Sr. Education Specialist is responsible for assisting and promoting the advancement of the Education Advocacy team alongside of the Supervisor. The Sr. Education Specialist will take lead and support the team in the absence of the Education Supervisor. The Sr. Education specialist will report directly to the Education Supervisor.

Salary Range: $53,550/year-$60,850/year

Responsibilities

  • Promote peer and supervisory feedback, and demonstrates compliance with meeting agency’s expectation
  • Communicate advances and barriers experienced with the clients, team, and stakeholders, including escalating any feedback received regarding own areas of improvement, to the Education Supervisor
  • Ability to provide needed coverage, support to peers/team members, at the main office, community, or other site.
  • Provide shadowing opportunities for other ES and support in absent of the Education Supervisor
  • Provide individual education counseling services to children/youth who are at risk of failing or dropping out
  • of school; advocate for these youth within the public education system to ensure that they are accepted into the most appropriate educational setting.
  • Monitor educational DOE data and send notifications to agency staff and parents about youth performance, attendance,
  • Refer students to NYF tutoring programs for academic
  • Identify students in need of special education supports and make appropriate referrals for evaluations as well as ensure appropriate services are in place within the classroom
  • Document all interventions performed in Connections, Care4 & Evov.
  • Develop contacts with relevant community
  • Provide continuing education and support to case planners regarding educational related issues and how to best advocate for the children/youth on their
  • Actively participate in educational meetings/conferences with foster and birth
  • Complete other job-related tasks, as required

Salary Range: $53,550/year-$60,850/year

Qualifications

Bachelor's in Social Work, Psychology or Sociology

Additional Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the NYC DOE system, college admissions and financial aid process, high school enrollment process, and alternative educational
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Ability to evaluate and aggregate educational data, put together reports and summaries and present information to other
  • Ability to collaborate with other program staff and community resources in meeting client
  • Ability to engage hard-to-reach youth in academic services and provide them with guidance and
  • Microsoft office suite proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish
  • Willingness to work flex-hours to meet availability of youth required (work some evenings and weekends).
  • Ability to manage time and program priorities, multi-task efficiently, and work under strict deadlines in meeting program

Education Required

Bachelor’s Degree from a U.S. accredited educational institution or Credential Evaluation for a non-U.S. educational institution
