The Neighborhood Center is Hiring an Individual Placement and Support Employment Specialist Near Utica, NY

  • $20.51/hr.
  • 37.5-hour work week
  • M – F, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm (work occasional evening and weekend hours as assigned)
  • 27 paid days off in year 1 (vacation & holidays), plus paid sick time!

The office site is in Utica, NY. The work with families may be on site, or out in the community.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The role of the ISP Employment Specialist is to support individuals with mental illness in meeting and sustaining their employment goals and working towards greater financial security. The ISP Employment Specialist incorporates the ISP evidenced based model with its 8 key principles which align with the recovery principles of CORE PSR services.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES INCLUDE:

  • Spend at least 65% of work hours off-site, in the community and locations not limited to ACCES-VR, employment settings, libraries, schools and colleges, coffee shops, homes, training sites.
  • Work closely with colleagues to coordinate job development activities.
  • Partnership with local employers through systematic job development and networking to best place individuals in a position for successful employment.
  • Attend specific trainings to provide benefits counseling for individuals in rehabilitation programs and supporting them with navigating work incentives.
  • Attend all New York Employment Services System (NYESS) trainings and implement documentation in the system as required.
  • Linking members with employment supports.
  • Provide members with time-unlimited, individualized, follow-along support to address any mental health barriers related to sustained employment.
  • Engage in the person-centered planning process to identify member’s preferences related to jobs and employment.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings, services plan and treatment plan reviews and other clinical team meetings when appropriate.
  • Build strong working relationships with employers, develop employment opportunities for the individual, provide job coaching and benefits counseling to the individual.
  • Ensure clients are placed at competitive positions.
  • Ensure all members are receiving benefits, entitlements, and rights are preserved.
  • Assist with assessment and individual vocational planning.
  • Assist with linkage to additional resources.
  • Coordinate with rehabilitative program facilitators to provide skill building groups that meet the needs of the clients.
  • Provide timely and accurate record documentation.
  • Maintain self in a professional manner at all times, adhering to the Neighborhood Center policy, procedures and in keeping with the agency’s mission statement.
  • Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working.
  • Employees are expected to be available to work occasional evening and weekend events as assigned, based on the needs of the program.
  • Performs various related tasks as assigned or required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess demonstrated knowledge of the mental health delivery system and community resources as well as community vocational resources.
  • Possesses demonstrated strong organizational, assessment and communication skills.
  • Possesses demonstrated work experience related to securing the cooperation of working effectively with individuals and agencies in the community.
  • Must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License and have transportation.
  • Work occasional evening and weekend hours as assigned, based on the needs of the program and the members.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Social work, Psychology or a closely related Human Services field and two (2) years of experience in the Mental Health Field and employment services preferred.
