PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Communications Managing Editor shall serve The Navigators and fulfill the responsibilities listed below in the spirit of The Navigators calling, values and purpose: To advance the Gospel of Jesus and His kingdom into the nations through spiritual generations of laborers living and discipling among the lost.

This position is responsible for leading the Communications Department editorial team, communicating corporate messaging, and providing communication support to internal audiences of The Navigators.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Managing Editor — 70%

  • Serve as managing editor for internal communications vehicles such as NavWeekly, the weekly email sent to all Navigator employees, as well as new internal communications vehicles as they are introduced.
  • Oversee all aspects of the weekly production of NavWeekly, including editing, layout, web posting, etc.
  • Maintain the national editorial calendar and style guide for all internal communications.
  • Contribute to the success of the cross-departmental Strategic Communications Working Group, taking the initiative to develop strategic partnerships across the organization.
  • Acquire and write ministry impact stories from Navigator staff through remote interviews and in-person networking.
  • Manage two Writer/Editor positions in the execution of their assigned responsibilities.

Communication Strategy (15%)

  • Contribute to the development of communications plans with the Vice President of Communications and the Strategic Communications Director.
  • Provide knowledge of publishing best practices and insights into audience analytics to be utilized in implementing communication strategy and tactics.

Additional Responsibilities — 15%

  • Participate in department meetings and contribute to department OKR creation and tracking.
  • Participate in Navigators’ on-site learning and development events, Cultural Development and Diversity trainings, or other non-Navigator developmental events as appropriate.
  • Participate in annual processes, such as the organizational Plan and Progress Review (PPR), Engagement Survey, Reaffirmation of the Navigators Code of Conduct, Calling-Core Values-Vision, Statement of Faith, Driver’s Authorization, and other releases as required.
  • Administer annual PPR for direct reports.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Spiritual: Belief in and adherence to the Statement of Faith and Mission of The Navigators. Knowledge of Navigator missions, ministries, and networks is preferred.

Experience: This role requires at least five years of experience in a related communications field. This role also requires strong organization and time management skills.

Technical Knowledge & Skills: Familiar with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook is required. Experience with video conferencing software such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams is required. Experience with Google Docs, OneDrive, or similar file sharing system preferred.

Communication & Leadership: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including verbal and written, to create understanding and build strong working relationships required. Strong writing, editing, and proofing abilities required.

Education: A bachelor’s degree in mass communications, journalism, or a related field is preferred.

Compensation Range: $52,000 - $65,000 annually
