WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Indian Boundary Prairies (IBP) Youth Program Assistant provides support to the Community Engagement Specialist / Program Coordinator in implementing a month-long summer youth program for six to eight interns ages 16-18.

The intern program consists of in-person and online sessions and activities; and is designed to provide a holistic environmental / stewardship experience that will serve to form and / or enhance a connection of people and the natural world.

The Assistant will begin work before the launch of the youth program to allow for program orientation; and participate in the curriculum development, hiring and onboarding interns;

and program evaluation. They may also have the opportunity to assist with preserve operations.

Responsibilities & Scope :

  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and hiring for the IBP Youth Program.
  • Lead and monitor youth interns as assigned.
  • Assist with the daily management and implementation of the youth program and interns to ensure participation, safety, and compliance with the program and mandates of The Nature Conservancy.
  • May network with diverse groups, including members of the Markham community; its leadership and business owners; conservation partners;

government officials; donors; board members; and the public to educate and encourage support for the Youth Program, the Indian Boundary Prairies, and The Nature Conservancy programs / preserves.

  • Troubleshoot and make sound, independent decisions based on analysis, experience, and context.
  • May work in variable weather conditions, requiring physical exertion and / or muscular strain.
  • Work hours are generally Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8 : 30am to 3 : 30pm CST.
  • This is a part-time (18 hours per week), short-term position running May 7 to July 18. Work will include online assignments and sessions;

and in-person activities at the Indian Boundary Prairies preserve located in Markham, Illinois.

WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU

The Nature Conservancy in Illinois is seeking a Youth Program Assistant for their Indian Boundary Prairies Preserve Paid Internship Program.

This early career opportunity provides the context to utilize present leadership skills and grow as a leader in general as a staff person with this unique program focused on natural and people environments.

The program Assistant will be responsible for finalizing the curriculum and effectively implementing it day to day with the interns who are 16-18 years of age.

The Program Assistant will work under the supervision of the Program Coordinator and alongside other staff at the Indian Boundary Prairies, the largest remaining example of high-quality grassland in Illinois and one of the best in the Midwest! If you are well-organized;

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

Minimum Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or GED, and one year of experience in youth leadership.
  • Experience working in a team environment; and completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Experience with record keeping and other administrative tasks.
  • Experience using on-line platforms, technology, and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Web browsers).

Desired Qualifications :

  • 1 or more years related experience in an environmental or social field, and a general appreciation for nature.
  • Some experience managing interns, volunteers, or entry level staff; experience in youth leadership.
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.

SALARY INFORMATION

The pay for a candidate selected for this position is generally $22.00 an hour. This rate only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA.

Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience.

Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges.
