The Museum School is Hiring a Middle School Counselor Near Decatur, GA

Description

The Museum School of Avondale Estates seeks a qualified, dynamic, and passionate educator to become the school’s Middle School Counselor. The school counselor will work closely with school staff to identify student needs and will support students through varied delivery models including small group and individual sessions. Additionally, the school counselor will work closely with classroom teachers to develop and implement lessons targeting the needs of large groups of students. 

The mission of The Museum School of Avondale Estates is to inspire students, teachers, and the community to collaborate to develop strong critical thinking, interpersonal, and academic skills in our students, which will prepare them for real-world success. The Museum School offers the accessibility of a public school with the organizational and curricular innovation of a museum school model. Beginning at the neighborhood level, students develop a strong sense of community, independence, responsibility, and respect for the impact of their decisions and actions on others. These skills will inspire them with the confidence to identify and manage problems at the local and global levels.

Responsibilities

· Providing support to students in a variety of settings, including innovative group counseling practices

· Developing and implementing lessons and activities based on individual needs and learning styles

· Working with the Principal to implement school-wide programs (i.e. Red Ribbon Week)

· Assisting school administration in updating and implementing school-wide policies including but not limited to attendance, child abuse protocol, etc.

· Planning collaboratively with school staff to enrich general curriculum and thematic units, support Learning Expeditions, and prepare for Exhibit Nights

· Participating in Professional Development workshops and opportunities

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s degree in School Counseling is preferred
  • Georgia counseling certification; Certification/Endorsement in more than 1 field preferred
  • Minimum of three years of successful experience in teaching and/or counseling.
  • Knowledge of and experience implementing various delivery models for school guidance including Advisory and SEL curriculum 
  • Experience working with a diverse student population preferred
  • Experience integrating Guidance Quality Core Curriculums within lessons and activities
  • Ability to advocate, nurture, and sustain an environment conducive to supporting student learning 
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and implementation skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
