Summary
As our Facility Automation and Efficiency Technician you will ensure The Museums HVAC, humidification, building automation, and related systems are maintaining the precise environmental control needed to preserve precious artifacts and a healthy and safe environment for the public and staff. You will work in world class facilities with state of the art HVAC and control system technology, including the first of its kind in the US variable zone chilled water pumping system.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Assist with monitoring, reviewing, and responding to building environmental conditions and verifying proper system operations within all Museum facilities.
  2. Proactively schedule HVAC and humidification systems for private, public, special exhibit, and education events on a weekly basis.
  3. Perform inspections of HVAC and building automation operations.
  4. Monitor, review, and respond to system alarm notifications, temperature complaints, and other HVAC related concerns with Department Manager, Museum staff, contractors, and consultants in a timely manner.
  5. Assist with the review and analyze electric, gas, water, and other utility bills to identify billing errors and opportunities to reduce use and cost.
  6. Assist with enhancements and modifications to building automation system programming and graphics.
  7. Assist in developing and maintaining plans for maintenance and energy savings.
  8. Work with the HVAC Manager and outside consultants and contractors to develop and implement facility improvement projects.
  9. Perform preventative maintenance, testing, and minor repairs on HVAC controls and actuators, as well as other building systems such as emergency generators, pumps, and associated controls not covered by existing contracts.
  10. Download and consolidate data from data loggers and building automation systems as prescribed to verify effectiveness and efficiency of operations.
  11. Remotely monitor and adjust control system during evenings, weekends, and events, as needed.
  12. Track and maintain an inventory of maintenance and replacement supplies and components.
  13. Assist in the maintenance of building system documentation, tools, and standard operating procedures.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Associate degree or other certification in a related field is preferred.
  • One (1) to two (2) years' experience working with HVAC, building automation, or energy efficiency in a complex commercial setting.
  • One (1) year of training in HVAC service, building automation, engineering, energy management, or a related field by an accredited institution.
  • Experience using electrical and environmental test equipment.
Knowledge
  • Demonstrated understanding of HVAC and building automation principles, systems and components, and their operation.
  • Understanding of building electrical power distribution systems, emergency and standby power and related systems and components.
  • General understanding of thermodynamics.
  • Familiarity with generators, transfer switches, sanitary and storm water pump systems, and associated controls.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Skills
  • Math and computer skills sufficient to collect and analyze data, track utility bills, energy use, and costs.
  • Display strong creative problem-solving skills.
  • AutoCAD application skills, a plus.
  • Good prioritization and organizational skills.
Abilities
  • Ability to troubleshoot, test, calibrate, or when applicable, repair or replace minor HVAC and building automation devices.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work activities and use time efficiently.
  • Able to work independently as well as a member of a team.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and work closely with a diverse group of staff and vendors.
  • Ability to read architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical blueprints.
License & Certification
  • Certified Energy Manager, or Energy Manager in Training certification (per Assoc. of Energy Engineers) preferred.
  • A current driver's license and an acceptable driving record is highly preferred.
  • Able to fulfill in-house certification in the operation of lift equipment that includes boom and scissor lifts.

  • The schedule for this position will be determined by the Supervisor.
  • May require working additional hours including evenings and weekends based on Museum needs.
  • Occasional local travel may be expected for this position.
Physical Demands

  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds with assistance.
  • The ability to bend, carry, reach to the side, front and overhead, push, pull, focus, walk, stand, twist and squat are often requirements for this position.
  • Good balance and able to work on catwalks, in high elevation, confined spaces and on lift platforms.
  • This position works with low voltage electricity and mechanical equipment.
  • Exposure to objects and chemicals that require strict adherence to safety guidelines.
  • Must be able to be physically active for the duration of a shift.
  • This position works indoors and outdoors near an active airport and may work during periods of inclement weather.
  • Onsite attendance is essential to perform the duties of this position.

Paid-Time Off
Our paid time-off plans include 2 weeks of accrued sick leave and 2 weeks of vacation (80 hours each) per year, 10 paid holidays, and 2 floating holidays.
Compensation
The hourly range for this position is $32.00 - $41.00 per hour depending on experience.
