The Morgan Oliver School for Anti-Racism is Hiring a Lead K/1 Teacher Near Atlanta, GA

Description:

The Morgan Oliver School is seeking an energetic and compassionate lead teacher for our K-2 classroom. Our school is a small anti racist community school serving kids 5-13. We are located in Kirkwood, Atlanta but will be relocated next year to East Atlanta Village. This will be a lead teaching role for an experienced educator well versed and trained in early literacy and teaching foundational reading and math skills. The candidate will have experience with formative assessments, identifying areas of growth in kids and creating small groups to support each child's needs. Special skills or talents are welcome. We are seeking a warm and flexible teacher who is interested in developing their practice and is adaptable to various needs of a small school. 

This role is a salaried position with all applicable school breaks off. 

Responsibilities:

As a part of this role, you will:

  • Follow and help develop a bilingual anti racist curriculum centering people of color
  • Plan, prepare materials and maintain running records and work samples from students
  • Participate in conferences and communications with parents and stakeholders
  • Perform auxiliary tasks on a rotating basis with other teachers and staff 
  • Conduct small group instruction in reading and math 
  • Manage the associate teacher and support in training, mentorship and facilitate growth

Requirements

  • A Masters level degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field with specialized professional development in teaching reading, OR 10 or more years teaching in a similarly aligned classroom. 
  • An exuberance and excitement for elementary age children
  • Deep belief in conscious discipline, appreciate inquiry, positive language frames and cultivating a compassionate space for children
  • A self starter who takes initiative and is exciting about contributing to a small new independent school
  • At least 8 years working with elementary age children as a classroom teacher
  • An ability to develop relationships across socioeconomic backgrounds and an excitement to grow from the proximity of them. 
  • An innate desire to learn more and discover 
  • Self motivating and able to structure ones small groups and class rhythm and flow
  • Ability to communicate compassionately to colleagues 
  • Flexibility in thoughts and ideas as we are a small startup school 
  • Knowledge of or openness to learn gender neutral Spanish
