Position: Turkish Linguist

Position Description:

Mission Essential is excited to announce wehave new work supporting Health and Human Services (HHS) providing refugeesupport to unaccompanied minors in need of translation services. We willbe looking for linguists who speak Turkish at a 2 IRL level. Linguists shalltranslate information to and for Care Staff and other individuals, asappropriate. Linguists serve as Communication Liaisons to ensure accurate,impartial,andconfidentialinterpretationisavailableinavarietyofsettings.Servicesshallberendered in-person primarily (preferred);and via telephone, videoconference, or other virtual means available 24x7 ifnecessary. Linguist translation and interpretation support shall:

*Provide in-person,onsite interpretation at Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) programs andservice sites

*Provideremote telephonic and/or video interpretation for ORR programs and servicesites

*Relay importantdeadlines, instructions, questions, and other communication from Support CareStaff to UC/UAM/URM in their native or preferred language

*Assist UC/UAM/URM incommunicating any concerns, questions, or other information to staff whenUC/UAM/URM are not fluent or comfortable speaking English or the languagespoken by Care Staff

*Providetranslation/interpretation services to aid in orienting UC/UAM/URM to communityresources as requested

*Translate documentsfrom English into the preferred and primary language spoken by the ORR-eligiblerecipient and vice-versa, as requested; at times, the vendor may need totranslate into the preferred and primary language from a source language otherthan English. Source documents may come from ORR or come from theORR-eligible recipient him or herself

*Assist staff withbuilding rapport and understanding the cultural context of the ORR populationsthey serve. The linguist does not replace the role of the program(s) casemanager or clinician, but rather serves as a person with which the UC/UAM/URMcan build aculturalconnection.Totheextentpossible,conversationsmustremainlightheartedto alleviatestressandanxietyinchildren.

• Pay for this position is $40/hr.

Requirements:

*Candidateshall have a working proficiency (Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) level2 ) in English and the SCRL.

*Candidatedoes not require a security clearance, however, will need to pass Tier 2 backgroundcheck.
