The Menta Education Group is Hiring a DHH Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher Near Chicago, IL

Job Description

As a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher, you will co-teach a DHH elementary student in a small self-contained classroom setting. Our social-emotional learning environments offer engaged and inquiry-based academics combined with a P.B.I.S. structure.

Direct-Hire position with benefits and paid benefit time off.

Follows a 10 Month School Calendar

School Hours 8 am -3:30 pm , Mon-Fri

Responsibilities

  • Teach all subjects in a classroom setting
  • Provide a differentiated learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with staff, including curriculum and clinical staff to yield positive results for the students
  • Gain support on-campus from other teachers, administrators, curriculum staff, clinical staff, and various support staff that are Menta employees Have the freedom and ability to personalize learning
  • Provide a social-emotional learning environment
  • Have a classroom size of around 10 students with paraprofessional support in the classroom
Qualifications
  • IL PEL (Professional Educator's License) with Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Endorsement
  • Fluency in ASL and Signed English and strong communication skills
  • Must be flexible in the ability to teach multiple grade levels as student populations change
  • Ability to teach a classroom of students within all basic instructional areas
  • Ability to work with youth with emotional/behavioral/academic difficulties
  • Ability to be flexible, work in teams and creatively problem solve
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively

About Menta Academy Midway

Menta Academy Midway promotes independence in students by creating a learning environment that fosters individualization and planning. The program provides support for English and non-English speaking children with disabilities by focusing on the whole child in their native language. Collaborative and data-based problem-solving approaches are utilized to develop appropriate interventions and progress monitoring.

The classrooms integrate evidence-based strategies from the Structured Teaching Model developed by Division TEACCH, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Physical structure, visual schedules, work systems, communication systems, and sensory supports are thoughtfully integrated to optimize student success.

Midway serves students in grades K-12 and those transitioning from school to life ages 18-21. Disabilities served include autism, emotional disabilities, specific learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, other health impairments, traumatic brain injury, and multiple disabilities.
