As a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) you will be cognizant of and have concern for those factors that ensure a safe and effective environment for psychiatric patients. In addition, as a Behavioral Health Technician, you will have a basic understanding of the behaviors of the psychiatric patient and an ability to interact in a therapeutic manner.
Here is some of what you can expect from being a Behavioral Health Tech with us:
As a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT), you will perform assigned tasks and activities according to skill level and patient needs as assessed by the Clinical Nurse Coordinator/Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, and Lead Behavioral Health Tech.
You will function as a member of the treatment team and accept responsibilities for specifically assigned duties such as patient observation rounds, suicide risk observation, management of the milieu, assisting with behavior modification programs and care of patient’s daily activities and needs.
You will provide and document goal and wrap up groups daily.
You will complete routine vital sign checks, orient the patient to the unit and search and catalog patient belongings.
You will demonstrates knowledge of regulatory laws as it relates to the care of the mentally ill.
What qualifications you will need:
Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
CPI certification within 1 month of hire and re-certification every 1 years thereafter required.
High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling preferred. (BHT I)
One year of inpatient behavioral health experience preferred. (BHT I)
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling required or equivalent experience in the mental health field required. (BHT II)
Two years of inpatient behavioral health experience preferred. (BHT II)
Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling required or a license and/or equivalent experience in the mental health field required. (BHT III)
Three years of inpatient behavioral health experience preferred. (BHT III)
