SUMMARY:

The Middle School seeks a Middle School Science Department Coordinator and 7th Grade Life Science teacher.
This role offers the right candidate an opportunity to teach four sections of 7th grade science and to work with a
dynamic team of science teachers within the larger 5-12th grade department. We seek an accomplished science
teacher who is also interested in working collaboratively with teachers and administrators to develop vertical and
horizontal alignment of skills and content. The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching and is eager to
support Middle School aged students in learning how to take an active role in their own learning. We are looking
for candidates who have also demonstrated a commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion, within and outside
the classroom. Masters is eager to consider applications from traditionally underrepresented groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach four sections of 7th grade Life Science
  • Successfully engage and develop student’s interest and enthusiasm for the subject matter
  • Serve as an advisor for 8-10 students
  • Plan and conduct science department meetings in coordination with the science department chair
  • Participate in extracurricular programs as a coach or club supervisor
  • Provide supervision during recess, in study hall and at other times during the school day, as needed
  • Attend 7th grade team and advisor meetings and Middle School faculty meetings
  • Participate in the life of the middle school by attending full group activities including morning meetings,

student presentations, performances and culminating events.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science and/or Science education required. Masters preferred
  • Understanding of and desire to work with middle school students. Prior teaching experience with middle

school-aged students is ideal

  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency
  • Familiar with and/or willing to explore student-centered pedagogical approaches
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students
  • Proficient in the use of technology
