Responsibilities include assisting counselors in the day-to-day supervision of summer program for participants ranging in ages 6 -17 some of whom may have disabilities. Assistant Counselors will aid with planning an inclusive comprehensive program schedule for the summer program site. They will assist with planning and leading program activities and special events. Staff are responsible for establishing and maintaining a good rapport with participants, parents, and other staff.
Staff are responsible for ensuring the safety and welfare of participants. They will be responsible for enforcing all M-NCPPC rules and regulations and compliance of Youth Camp Safety Standards. Under immediate supervision, they will perform program support duties of a relatively routine and repetitive nature. They will assist with maintaining the cleanliness of the site, including picking up trash, sweeping the floor etc. and assist with trip supervision in accordance with Youth Camp Safety Standards. They will participate in inventory control and distribute equipment and supplies to participants.
Since this is a summer only position, there is no paid vacation or holiday leave; sick leave is granted on an accrual basis. All summer program staff are required to attend pre-service training, Youth Camp Safety Standards training, food service training (where applicable), and obtain CPR and First Aid certification prior to the beginning of camp.
The ideal candidate will possess experience working or volunteering with youth in the field of parks and recreation, physical education, childcare or a related field. Candidates must be 16 years of age and able to obtain a work permit.
