Reporting / Working Relationships
  • Reports to the Managing Director of Church Planting, Renewal and Support.
  • Collaborates with other ONM staff members, as arranged, assigned and supervised by the Managing Director of Church Planting, Renewal and Support.
  • Leads collaboration and coordination within Synod offices and operating units, other Synod agencies (i.e., districts, synodwide corporate entities such as LCEF or LCMS Foundation, etc.) recognized service organizations, auxiliaries, universities, seminaries and other Synod partners and stakeholders in participation and support of ministry to peoples of all ethnicities.
  • Provides advocacy, facilitation and resources for LCMS All Nations Ministry to congregations, schools and other LCMS agencies, RSOs and auxiliaries.
Essential Job Functions
  • Provides leadership, coordination and content contribution in the design and development of resources for witness and outreach, church planting, mercy initiatives and leadership training within ethnic and immigrant, Hispanic and Black communities served by LCMS districts, congregations, and schools.
  • Identifies resources for translation of content into the languages of first-generation immigrants and coordinates such translation efforts (including writing and submission for approval contracts for translation services).
  • Represents and promotes LCMS All Nations Ministry at conferences, conventions, workshops, meetings and other venues.
  • Serves as liaison between the ONM and other LCMS agencies (including districts, congregations, universities, seminaries, synodwide corporate entities), recognized service organizations, auxiliaries and other LCMS partners and stakeholders involved in training leaders, developing resources, and supporting congregations and schools engaged in ethnic and immigrant, multi-ethnic, Hispanic, and Black ministries.
  • Provides on-site visitation for support, encouragement, and consultation to existing LCMS ethnic and immigrant, multi-ethnic, Hispanic, and Black ministries.
  • Provides consultation with LCMS districts engaged in ethnic, immigrant, multi-ethnic, Hispanic, and Black ministry, when requested by the district president or his representative.
  • Develops strategy to optimize networking across the LCMS among ethnic, immigrant, multi-ethnic, Hispanic, and Black ministry leaders to share best practices, lend support to one another and perform human care in close proximity to Word and Sacrament ministries.
  • Collaborates with the LCMS Office of International Mission in support of national and international LCMS ethnic, immigrant, multi-ethnic, Hispanic, and Black ministries.
  • Oversees the review, analysis, and determination of grant requests from ethnic, immigrant, multi-ethnic, Hispanic, and Black congregations, and other LCMS-related ministries.
  • Initiates and manages contracts in support of LCMS All Nations Ministry
  • Collaborates with LCMS Communications on print and electronic communications pertaining to LCMS All Nations Ministry.
  • Collaborates with the LCMS Office of Pastoral Education, as assigned, to support the recruitment and retention of ethnic, immigrant, multi-ethnic, Hispanic and Black church workers.
  • Collaborates with Mission Advancement to prepare and submit grant requests and donor information in support of the ongoing work of LCMS All Nations Ministry.
  • Maintains an active and current directory of ethnic, immigrant, multi-ethnic, Hispanic, and Black congregations and the church workers who serve them.
  • Carries out other projects and assignments relating to ethnic, immigrant, multi-ethnic, Hispanic, and Black ministry as assigned by the Managing Director of Church Planting, Renewal, and Support.
Education and Experience
  • An ordained or commissioned minister of the LCMS, faithful to the Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions.
  • A member in good standing of an LCMS congregation.
  • Supportive of the Synod’s constitution, bylaws and policies and familiar with the structure, polity, organization, and procedures of the Synod.
  • A minimum of 5 years of parish experience (10 preferred), with special consideration given to time serving in an ethnic, immigrant, multi-ethnic, Hispanic and/or Black ministry.
  • Demonstrated successful leadership or experience in ethnic and immigrant ministry in a district, congregation, or organization.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to work in, adapt to, and help shape a dynamic working environment.
  • Proactive leader able to work creatively and innovatively with a diversity of people and organizations active in ethnic, immigrant, multi-ethnic, Hispanic and Black ministries.
  • Ability to work with and collaborate with persons and stakeholders in related ministries and services in the Synod.
  • Intuitive with different people and groups to sense conflict, tension, appreciation, agreement, or confusion and knows how to properly respond.
