The Lovett School is Hiring a Middle School Executive Functioning Specialist Near Atlanta, GA

Reports to: Academic Resource Center (ARC) Director and Head of Middle School

The Lovett School’s Mission, Core Values, and Diversity Mission Statement 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Carry out all responsibilities associated with teaching to engage, inspire, and challenge students consistent with Lovett’s mission, values, and whole-child education model, including:
  • Coordinate school-wide executive functioning supports, including advisory programming, directed study support, and potential student ambassador program
  • Work one-on-one, in pairs, or in small groups with students to address executive functioning skills and their impact on academic performance
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to determine appropriate support and offer periodic faculty professional development relative to serving students with executive functioning challenges
  • Communicate with parents to inform them of progress and/or challenges in the classroom and school more generally. Provide periodic parent sessions on topics of interest
  • Attend conferences with parents and/or teachers as requested
  • Observe/monitor students who do not have psycho-educational reports to assess student needs
  • Interpret psycho-educational reports and convey to teachers and parents pertinent educational recommendations made in the reports of individual students
  • Participate as a member of the Student Support / Grade Level Team
  • Attend scheduled meetings: ARC, whole school, division, grade, etc.
  • Is involved in the life of the school outside of the classroom
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned, including responsibilities that may occur on weekends and evenings (e.g. admission open house, observations, and interviews)

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Special Education or similar field; a master's degree in Special Education/Learning Disabilities or Reading/Literacy is preferred; a minimum of three years of experience as a Learning Specialist, preferably with students in grades 6-8.
  • The drive, organization, and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the school community beyond the classroom 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors
  • Employment of a variety of teaching and assessment techniques, including the meaningful use of digital tools, to engage students and further their critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity
  • A strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community, employing a growth mindset and participating in ongoing professional development during the school year and summer
  • Desire and ability to develop an atmosphere of trust and knowledge of students as individuals
  • Commitment to developing one’s own cultural self-awareness, cultural competence, and emotional intelligence
  • Ethical behavior, professionalism, and regular and reliable attendance
