Position Summary: The Special Education School Counselor/Social Worker will support Special
Education students in their learning by rendering essential services that recognize and
resolve the environmental and/or socio-emotional problems that obstruct the educational
process. He/she will provide counseling (individual and group) to elementary school
students from diverse backgrounds, in accordance with professional standards and ethics
regarding the delivery of clinical social work services. He/she will provide consultation
services to school staff about individual student needs and work collaboratively as an
interdisciplinary team member to devise plans for students through the provision of support
services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
● Identify evidence-based interventions to be utilized for group and individual sessions
(i.e. SEL curriculums, etc.)
● Provide individual counseling services to students in grades three through five
through the use of evidence-based practices. Contribute to the development and
monitoring of social, emotional, and/or behaviorally-driven Individualized Education
Program (IEP) goals.
● Provide small group counseling services to students in grades three through five on a
variety of topics, inclusive of social skills, coping, self-regulation, organization, and
grief/loss.
● Develop and implement professional development training for school personnel and
parents, as requested.
● Assist the IEP team, in conjunction with the school attendance officer, in addressing
truancy-related issues through the creation of student-specific plans, and the
monitoring of attendance-related goals.
● Participate in eligibility determination, as well as re-evaluation, meetings.
● Participate in professional development activities aimed at best practices for the
provision of comprehensive school counseling services.
● Serve as a liaison between the student, home, school, private counseling facilities,
and other community resources.
● Provide families with information to external support services or agencies in order to
assist students in coping with challenges.
● Perform duties and assume other responsibilities, as requested by supervisor.

Education & Experience:
Education: Master's degree required, preferably in counseling or social work
At least one of the following licenses is required: Licensed Professional Counselor(LPC), or Licensed Social Worker (LSW), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Work Hours: This is a full-time 10 month, 43 week position
