POSITION TITLE: Academic Success Program (ASP) Coordinator

JOB GOAL: The ASP Coordinator provides the leadership, coordination, innovation, and management functions necessary to ensure that each student and staff member derives maximum benefit from their involvement in the Missoula County Public Schools Adult Basic Education and English Language Learner Programs.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Classroom and Advising Tasks

1. Oversees the daily operations of the Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English Language Learner (ELL) classrooms.

2. Recruits, and provides orientation, testing, and onboarding to new and returning students.

3. Recruits, orients, and oversees volunteers for the ASP classrooms

4. Provides Academic advising and follow-up for students

5. Works closely with instructional staff to provide appropriate interventions for students who are struggling.

6. Collaborates with Vocational Rehabilitation, Probation and Parole, Pre-release, Job Service and other agencies to serve students and plan supportive services

7. Maintains effective systems to achieve state targets for Post Testing, Measurable Skill Gains, High School Equivalency completions, and Post Secondary Enrollment

8. Identifies, recruits, and advises students for workforce training, Digital Literacy, and Integrated Education and Training Programs.

9. Provides classroom instruction for ABE and ELL classrooms as needed

10. Provides leadership in utilizing community resources for ASP students and staff.

Communication

11. Serves on The Lifelong Learning Center Leadership team

12. Markets and promotes all Lifelong Learning Center programs to the Missoula Community.

13. Collaborates with the Adult Education Director and other partners on the writing of grant proposals.

14. Keeps abreast of local, state, and federal funding issues and new developments in the ABE field and informs ASP Staff and Adult Education Director of the impact of the issues and developments.

15. Clearly and concisely communicates with staff, students, other divisions, collaborating agencies, and the public orally and in writing.

Curriculum

16. Make recommendations for ELL, ABE, Digital Literacy, and workforce training curriculum and program development

17. Researches and encourages innovative instructional programs designed to improve curriculum, delivery, and student retention.

18. Assists in the development and implementation of curricular objectives.

19. Assists in reviewing current instruction in light of ABE curriculum objectives and monitors curriculum implementation.

20. Coordinates and assists in selecting instructional and support materials for the ASP department.

21. Assists instructors in resolving instructional problems and serves as a resource on curriculum questions.

Professional

22. Models and maintains high standards of professional conduct.

23. Demonstrates initiative in recognizing needs, problems, or potential for improvement, recommends appropriate action, and follows through with projects.

24. Uses appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to guide individuals and groups to task accomplishment.

25. Demonstrates the ability to maintain supportive and professional working relationships with co-workers, students, and other professionals.

26. Demonstrates the ability to be dependable, punctual, organized, and prioritize multiple projects.

27. Demonstrates the ability to make effective use of materials, time, facility, instructor, and volunteer time.

General

28. Assists in student orientation, test administration, scoring, and student enrollment as needed.

29. Recommends and schedules instructional assignments for the ASP Department.

30. Research grant opportunities that would enhance the services of the ABE program.

31. Facilitates student evaluations of all ASP instructional services, orientation process, and overall program effectiveness.

32. Provide input regarding ABE staffing needs to the Adult Education Director and participate in the hiring process.

33. Promotes and supports professional development for self and others, based on current issues and trends in Adult Basic Education.

34. Other duties as assigned by the Adult Education Director.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. A degree in Education or related field

2. Certification in and experience with English as a Second Language programs

3. Experience working in the field of Adult Basic Education.

4. Classroom experience teaching adults with multiple educational barriers.

5. Experience with Academic Advising for adults

6. Experience with Workforce Training Programs

7. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in an educational setting.

8. Experience meeting State and Federal performance targets and grant management

9. Experience working collaboratively with community agencies and educational organizations.

10. Experience using database applications for program management

11. Proven ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

12. Experience providing excellent customer service and resolving student-related issues.

13. Proven ability to uphold policies and a high standard of confidentiality.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-time assignment, compensated at $32 per hour.

All other benefits available to MCPS Adult Education Division part-time instructors apply. Grant-funded position.

Primarily schedule:

o Monday-Thursday 8:30 AM-1:30 PM

o One evening per week 5:30-8:30 PM
