Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Instructor to join our team for a summer enrichment camp. The ideal candidate will have expertise in teaching block coding/ game design utilizing SCRATCH and/or Python, robotics, and drone aviation to engage and inspire campers in hands-on learning experiences. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.
Our ideal candidate has worked professionally with school-age students for at least one year or is currently enrolled in an accredited university.
Responsibilities and Duties
Implement project-based learning activities that challenge campers to apply STEM concepts creatively in real-world scenarios, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Ensure the safety of campers during hands-on activities, adhering to established safety protocols and guidelines for working with coding software, robotics equipment, and drones.
Lead interactive and hands-on instructional sessions, providing clear expectations, demonstrations, and guidance to facilitate learning and skill development.
Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where campers feel encouraged to explore, experiment, and collaborate with their peers.
Assess campers' progress and understanding through observation, informal assessments, and project evaluations, providing constructive feedback to support their growth and development.
Collaborate with fellow instructors and camp staff to coordinate schedules, share resources, and create interdisciplinary learning opportunities that enhance the overall camp experience.
Maintain open and effective communication with campers, parents/guardians, and camp administration, providing regular updates on camp activities, camper progress, and any concerns or issues that may arise.
Document progress to discuss with Camp Supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills
Currently enrolled in a STEM field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, etc.) at an accredited university.
Prior experience teaching coding, LEGO robotics, and/or drone aviation to children and/or adolescents in a formal or informal educational setting.
Strong knowledge and proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Scratch, Python, Java), LEGO Mindstorms or similar robotics platforms, and/or drone technology.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire learners of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver engaging, hands-on STEM lessons and activities that promote inquiry-based learning and problem-solving.
Commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment that values diversity, equity, and respect for all individuals.
CPR/First Aid certification (preferred).
Background check clearance (required).
This is a seasonal, full-time position for the duration of the summer camp program, July 8 - August 16, 2024. The position may be extended to evenings and/or weekends during the school year.
