The Learning Spectrum is Hiring a Director of Education Near Columbus, OH

The Learning Spectrum is seeking a qualified Director of Education to manage the school program, including teaching methods and educational practices within the classroom setting. This position oversees curriculum development for students in accordance with Department of Education regulations for children with special needs and provides direction on behavior management to staff in the classroom setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure compliance with Department of Education regulations
  • Maintain program financial budget and evaluate financial status on an ongoing basis
  • Maintain open lines of communication with school districts and serve as contact person for student referrals
  • Communicate routinely with parents and encourage parental participation in the educational plan
  • Project training needs and coordinate training for staff to increase skill development
  • Participate in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process by attending IEP meetings, working collaboratively with IEP team members, and completing and preparing IEP paperwork
  • Oversee development of individualized lesson plans or specifically designed instruction
  • Ensure special education teachers follow appropriate teaching practices and curricula
  • Review lesson plans to ensure continuity with IEP goals
  • Assist educational staff as needed to plan, implement, and adapt instructional activities
  • Provide accurate information regarding student's academic progress to the multidisciplinary team on a regular basis

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10 years’ experience in a school environment with children with learning and behavioral challenges; 5 years of which were in a leadership position.
  • Commitment to and experience with students from diverse backgrounds with unique academic and behavioral needs
  • Experience in: Educational Support (curriculum, professional development, instructional technology support, textbook/supply resources) or Growth Planning and Leading (engaging communities and other leaders, legislative awareness, assuring representation at Central Office at ESC/CSA/LEA events, building needs for growth) strongly preferred.
