Description

DESCRIPTION: The mission of the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism (FCAS) is to win the hearts and minds of non-Jews and Jews through powerful positive messaging and partnerships, motivating and equipping them to be defenders of and upstanders for Jews. FCAS focuses on spreading the Blue Square and associated programs to spur action by people of all backgrounds. Working with a network of partners, FCAS leverages unique monitoring technology to drive effective rapid response to Jewish hate and all hate, in addition to proactive programs that galvanize popular support for the Jewish community.

SUMMARY: The Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO) provides comprehensive and strategic leadership of the FCAS development program. The primary responsibility of this leader is to drive fundraising strategies for the ongoing growth of a diverse community of philanthropic support and deep, long-term relationships based on the common goal of supporting Jews and eradicating hate. Reporting directly to the President, the CPO works closely with senior executive leadership to establish fundraising goals and secure the philanthropic resources necessary to advance FCAS’ mission.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Collaborate with FCAS leadership to set annual and multi-year fundraising goals aligned with the FCAS mission and develop and execute strategies for achievement thereof. Provide leadership for expanding the donor pool; strengthening the fundraising performance of donors, including size and number of gifts; using the power of data and analytics to inform decision-making; and articulating a compelling case for support and other messaging in support of fundraising.
  2. Drive identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors in partnership with key internal and external resources, including leveraging and guiding FCAS executive leaders and Directors’ participation in donor engagement activities with strategic discretion; prioritize strategically partnering with the FCAS Founder to respond to and realize philanthropic opportunities associated with their network of relationships.
  3. Ensure development programs are built upon efficient processes, sophisticated systems, and data-informed decision-making, benchmarking against corresponding best practices and peer organizations to inform areas for enhancement or additional investment of resources.
  4. Prepare regular reports regarding development activities and progress for FCAS leaders and broader distribution as appropriate.
  5. Oversee management, training, evaluation, and prospective hirings of an evolving, highly driven development staff, fostering an ethos of continuous improvement, innovation, inclusivity, professionalism, and attention to detail. Increase effectiveness and productivity by serving as coach and mentor, ensuring clear expectations and accountability.
  6. Ensure sound fiscal responsibility, adherence to donor agreements and intentions, and compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and reporting requirements for the Foundation.
  7. Serve as a compelling external representative at various forums and events to advance the Foundation’s visibility and mission, identifying opportunities for the strategic participation of additional FCAS stakeholders as appropriate.
  8. Undertake special projects or other, related duties as determined by senior leadership.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. This position will have 2-3 full-time direct reports

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 10 years of nonprofit fundraising experience in positions of increasing responsibility. Track record of creating and executing development strategies and programs, simultaneously managing an array of corresponding activities, growing the donor base, and increasing philanthropic revenue. Sophisticated understanding of individual, institutional, annual, digital, and event-driven giving.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of FCAS and a sophisticated understanding of antisemitism in its current and historical context.
  • Demonstrated success in cultivating and stewarding new and existing donors and in soliciting contributions of seven to eight-figures or more.
  • Track record of effective management and agility in toggling between strategy, hands-on execution, and team leadership; ability to lead and motivate staff and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent judgment that prioritizes mission above personal gain or ego; a commitment to innovation, diplomacy, inclusivity, continuous improvement, and accountability.
  • Exceptional work ethic, entrepreneurial and highly flexible leadership style, and the ability to succeed in a fast-paced, evolving environment with a high level of principal oversight.
  • Culturally competent with respect to issues such as racial, cultural, religious, sexual, and gender identity with the interpersonal skills and sensitivity to develop and sustain impactful relationships with a diversity of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills with the stature, demeanor, and comfort level to serve as a highly visible and public-facing ambassador of FCAS.
  • Working knowledge of modern data management practices and demonstrated ability to integrate data into decision-making and strategy development.
