Overview:

The Kentucky Castle is a unique hospitality destination boasting a boutique hotel, farm-to-table restaurant, event center, spa and working farm. We are seeking a new Farm Team Member to be responsible for the general upkeep and well-being of the barn, grounds, farm animals and equipment. This individual will be expected to keep the farm in working order while collaborating with all departments via general maintenance, landscaping, repairs, animal welfare and improvements property-wide. To excel in this position, this candidate must display a thorough understanding of farm life and the ability to execute daily tasks required to maintain a working farm. Proper execution of this role will contribute to the company’s vision of providing top-notch hospitality by providing a safe, functional and aesthetically pleasing environment on the castle grounds.

Supervision:

The Farm Team Member reports directly to the Farm Coordinator

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform daily duties involving farm animals, including: feeding, watering, herding, grooming, turning in/out, catching and loading, and cleaning stalls.
• Assist with maintenance and fencing, mowing and rotation schedules.
• General maintenance, grounds and upkeep of outdoor guest areas and around farm hotel accommodations.
• Custodial duties include the cleanliness of the barn and the surrounding grounds: vacuuming and mopping floors, sanitizing restroom facilities and collecting trash to ensure the building's occupants have a clean and safe space.
• Identify and report any damages, unsafe conditions or facility related problems to the appropriate department, and assist with repairs if able.
• Collaborate with Farm management and various departments to complete special projects as they arise.
• Protect equipment and make sure that everything is in good working order.
• Check stocking levels of all consumables and replace them when appropriate.
• Communicate effectively and timely to management any and all occurrences involving staff or guests that require attention.
• Maintain The Kentucky Castle Farm Standards as well as Standard Operating Procedures at all times.
• Regularly attend, participate in and support training and staff meetings.
• Maintain a standard schedule and good record of attendance.
• Due to the nature of the farming industry, the employee may be required to work longer hours and varying schedules to reflect the business needs, which may include on-call, overtime, weekends, and holidays
• Interact with guests in a professional and welcoming manner, providing guidance and assistance as needed.

Qualifications:

• Knowledge and capability to work with farm animals of all types and sizes.
• Able and willing to withstand the physical demands of the job, including: lifting 50 pounds, long periods of time standing, walking, bending or kneeling, 8 hour shifts, and exposure to allergens, moisture and varied weather conditions.
• Farm equipment and safety experience is strongly preferred.
• Able to prioritize a full and diverse workload and be proactive at completing tasks.
• Aptitude for following instructions and working both independently and with a team.
• Willing to work in a variety of weather conditions.
• Effective communication skills for working with team members, managers and guests

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour

Education:

• High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience:

• Farming: 1 year (Required)
