Job Title: Construction Safety Specialist

Location: Irvine, CA

About the Role: As a Construction Safety Specialist, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, contractors, and visitors during engineering and construction projects on our Irvine campus. Reporting to the R&D EHS Manager, you’ll be responsible for implementing safety programs, conducting inspections, and providing expert guidance on construction safety practices.

Responsibilities:

• Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with external vendors to ensure safe construction activities.
• Job Hazard Analysis: Assist in reviewing job hazard analyses for assigned projects.
• Site Inspections: Conduct regular site inspections to assess compliance and make recommendations. Prepare detailed reports for management review.
• Cross-Functional Communication: Engage with cross-functional teams, including project engineers and general contractors, to address safety concerns.
• Safety Decision-Making: Make informed safety decisions within the context of each project.
• Compliance: Ensure that practices align with local, county, state, and company EHS requirements.
• Contractor Training: Deliver safety training to contract workforce.
• Vendor Compliance Tracking: Manage and track third-party construction and maintenance vendor compliance using our approved contractor management system.

Qualifications:

• Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in Health & Safety within the construction industry.
• Construction Knowledge: Thorough understanding of construction materials and practices.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in safety, occupational health, engineering, or a related field (preferred).

Certifications:

• OSHA 30-Hour certification (required)
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification (preferred)
• Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification (a plus)
