The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory is Hiring a Digital Media Data Analyst Near Laurel, MD

DescriptionThe Communications Department is seeking a digital media data analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in key internal and external communications metrics gathering, analysis, reporting and leading the development of recommendations based on that analysis. The digital media data analyst will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams across the Communications Department and with our partners across the Lab to establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and measurement methods, monitor progress toward goals, and optimize the effectiveness of internal and external communications at APL.
As a Digital Media Data Analyst...
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive set of KPIs for various aspects of communication initiatives, to include:
    • Employee engagement with a variety of internal communications platforms
    • External engagement with APL’s website, social media, external newsletter and events.
  • Partner with the communications technology manager to evaluate and identify current and future tools for gathering communications metrics.
  • Partner on the design and implementation of future tools for gathering communications metrics, including the incorporation of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled solutions.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of metrics from existing tools to identify trends and areas of opportunity.
  • Lead the creation of timely, accurate metrics reports and develop a process for sharing with partners around the Lab.
  • Work with our business operations and finance team to incorporate level of effort and resources for communications initiatives alongside engagement metrics.
  • Monitor and evaluate the success of communication campaigns by comparing actual results against established KPIs and benchmarks.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in communication processes, tools and channels based on insights from data analysis.
  • Support the Communications Department leadership team in presenting findings to executive management and making recommendations for future action.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices related to communication metrics and analytics.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects, as needed, contributing expertise on communication metrics and providing guidance on how to measure success effectively.

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, data science, business administration or a related field
  • At least 2 years of demonstrated experience working with communication metrics, data analysis, and project management within a corporate environment
  • Strong analytical skills, including proficiency in using advanced analytics tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar software platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively within cross-functional teams and building strong relationships across various departments
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing communication strategies that have led to measurable improvements in key performance indicators
