The Independent / Vera's is Hiring an Event Manager Near Somerville, MA

The Events Coordinator/FOH Manager position is a hybrid position with time dedicated to coordinating restaurant events and supervising front of house operations at both The Independent & Vera’s. The primary function of this role is to oversee event planning and to manage daily business operations to build sales and ensure smooth and successful restaurant operations. This position reports directly to the General Manager and, as such, assumes total responsibility for the unit in the absence of the General Manager.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

· Responding to event and event-related guest inquiries in a timely fashion

· Booking, planning and executing restaurant events; Working with management team to ensure all events run smoothly from start to finish

· Working with the team to conceptualize and implement new event ideas

· Managing day to day restaurant operations including: opening and closing responsibilities, floor management, staff management, and other administrative duties as assigned

· Help to create and maintain a positive work culture that motivates and encourages employees to perform at their highest levels

· Help attract and retain long term guests by ensuring quality and service standards are met

· Adhering to and enforcing all Company policies, practices and procedures

· Ensure compliance with all state, local and federal laws

Desired candidates will be:

· Motivated self-starters and doers with a natural drive to get things done

· Creative and innovative problem-solvers who take initiative to build memorable events for our guests

· Organized and able to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively

· Tech-savvy, with some marketing experience or exposure and/or a basic understanding of marketing principals and social media

· Passionate about food, beverage and hospitality with a desire to learn and grow with a dynamic, professional and fun organization

Required Education and Experience:

· 1-2 years of restaurant management experience or equivalent

· Previous experience managing or coordinating events, preferably in the hospitality industry

· Strong interpersonal and written communication skills

· An eye for detail and strong organizational skills

· A high school diploma or equivalent; a bachelor’s degree in a related-field is preferred but not required

Required Training and Certifications:

· Must maintain active ServSafe, Chokesave, Allergen Awareness and TIPs certifications.

Work Environment: The work environment can be loud and busy. There are many hazards such as slippery floors, hot liquids and surfaces, and sharp objects including knives.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing for long periods, walking, bending, kneeling and stooping. The employee must frequently lift or move items weighing over 20 pounds. The employee must be able to read, write and speak in professional English.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position which regularly requires long hours and weekend work.
