Job Title: Commercial Loan Officer

Reports To: Director of Loan Operations

Direct Subordinates: None

Duties and Responsibilities:

Basic Functions: Serve as contact person for the Bank’s commercial clients in the designated service area. Under general supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures, originates, underwrites, obtains approval of, and closes commercial loans. Is responsible for calling on prospective customers to promote new business for the Bank as well as retaining current commercial relationships.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effectively initiate and manage a commercial loan portfolio as well as cross-sell deposit and ancillary bank products to prospects and existing customers.
  • Interview loan applicants, collect and analyze financial and related data to determine the general credit worthiness of the prospect and merits of the specific loan request. May obtain information through direct inspection of the applicant’s business and/or collateral.
  • Approve loan requests within officer loan limits and lending guidelines.
  • Establish and negotiate where necessary, terms under which credit will be extended, including costs, repayment method, pricing and schedule and collateral requirements.
  • Develop new business by contacting prospective customers and selling bank services. Cross-sell all bank products and coordinate with other departments to do so.
  • Make loan presentations to the supervisor, President/CEO, Board Loan Committee and/or Board of Directors where appropriate.
  • Contact and collect past due accounts and negotiate workouts when necessary and possible.
  • Address customer questions, inquiries and problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Be actively involved in community and civic organizations to promote the bank.
  • Be actively involved in trade organizations to improve professional skills and development and to promote the banking industry.
  • Follow relevant established Bank policies and procedures including all pertinent banking regulations.
  • Participate and/or lead various bank committees as assigned.
  • Assist in development and/or revision of bank policies.
  • Willingly perform any duties requested by a supervisor relating to the Bank and its functions.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and accountability with customers, vendors, directors, and fellow employees.
  • Other duties as assigned by the President/CEO.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors in accounting/finance and/or 5 years of commercial lending experience.

Description of Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • The work environment for this job is typical of an indoor office environment. The noise level is usually moderate. Sitting, standing, speaking, listening, writing, typing, and exerting up to 50 lbs. of force may be necessary to fulfill the essential functions of this job.
