POSITION SUMMARY The Hewitt School performing arts program seeks a part-time (.60) middle school drama teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. We have an exceptional program where students thrive in class and on stage. Qualified candidates must demonstrate a passion for nurturing students and developing creative work. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach middle school drama classes
Direct and be responsible for the overall production of the middle school musical, including all physical aspects of a production, the design, the budget and pre-production stages to rehearsal and final performances
Integrate learning about equity, diversity, and social emotional learning into programming
Collaborate with colleagues on pedagogy and curricular scope and sequence
Engage fully in Hewitt’s commitment to implementing current research on girls in the classroom and beyond
Write student reports and stay in regular communication with parents
Participate in admissions and parent education events
Write entries for the weekly divisional newsletters about class activities as needed
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and social justice
Master’s degree in drama, education, or related field
Commitment to girls’ education
Previous experience in a theatrical production
Knowledge, experience and skill set to work with middle school students
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
Minimum of three to five years teaching experience with students in grades 5-8
Inquiry-based pedagogy
Culturally responsive approach to teaching
Experience using technology to reach and teach students
Proficient with Mac platforms; comfortable with technology or demonstrated ability to learn quickly
Fluency in multiple student-centered instructional approaches
Commitment to student life
Proven dedication to professional growth and purpose-driven practice
Professional practice and ability to model contemplation as part of intellectual exploration
