The Heritage Group is Hiring a QC Field Density Technician Near Griffith, IN

Milestone Contractors, a heavy highway construction company is looking to add a QC Field/Density Technician to our team.

Position Summary:

Field Sampling and Density Control as well as occasional quality control testing at hot mix asphalt plant.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs quality control test sampling and testing-
    • Sampling of hot mix from the road or a delivery truck at the plant.
    • Sampling of cores from the compacted mat.
    • Performs all field QC tests required, including density control.
    • Assists with in-lab QC testing and mix
  • Communicates with internal/external customers-
    • Collaborates with multiple work groups to ensure proper tests and requirements are
    • Meets INDOT
  • Attends training-
    • Obtains qualifications from INDOT
    • Maintains certifications
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment-
    • Exhibits safe work behaviors - Absolute Must!
    • Wears all prescribed PPE - Absolute Must!

Supervision Received: Works under the general direction of the Area or Assistant QC Manager

Work Environment The work environment described here is representative of those experienced by an employee performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Continuous exposure to aggregates, gravel, water, asphalt, concrete.
  • Indoor lab conditions that include mechanical equipment, noise, vibration, fumes and airborne particles.
  • Outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, precipitation, heat, humidity, dust, asphalt and/or concrete, aggregate/gravel pits, moving or stopped traffic at job sites.

Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Lifts, pushes, pulls, pours or carries heavy objects, buckets of material, up to 75lbs.
  • Walks and stands for long periods of time.
  • Bends, stoops, squats, reaches to move, mix and test materials.
  • Uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Uses good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination, with the ability to quickly move arms and legs.
  • Possess excellent stamina to work between 8-12 hours per day.
  • Drives distances between labs, plants and job sites.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position, normally 40 hours per week. Days and hours of work can vary, but shifts are normally 8 or more hours. Overtime, weekend and shift work are frequently required.

Travel Travel is throughout the state to various labs, plants and job sites throughout the business day; some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.

Required Education and Experience

  • HS Diploma or GED

Preferred, but not Required, Education and Experience

  • Density Testing Background
  • HMA Certifications
  • 3-5 years asphalt heavy/highway industry

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to perform mathematical computations, of increasing complexity, by hand, with calculators and Excel.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical specifications.
  • Ability to read measuring devices in metric and English.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must adhere to drug free workplace requirements, including random testing requirements.
  • Will be required to drive a company vehicle, must have or be able to obtain valid, state driver's license and meet company driver requirements.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable) Must be authorized to work in the United States, as verified through E-Verify. Some job sites may require additional criminal background testing.
