The Heritage Community is Hiring a THERAPY INTERNSHIP | Spark Academy (Fall 2024) Near Provo, UT

Spark Academy is a co-ed, residential treatment program for adolescents, specializing in neurodiversity. Our philosophy is first treating the trauma from a life with high-functioning Autism, paving the way for increased self-regulation and competency! We provide a full continuum of care with three, distinct residential settings – Foundations, Life, and Launch – where we can laser focus on each students’ unique treatment progression.
We currently have two Therapy internship positions available within Spark Academy, to start as of Summer 2024! Candidates for this internship must be MSW, MFT, or CMHC graduate students, preferably in their second year. We seek interns who are eager to learn and proactive – ready to roll up their sleeves to dynamically put into field practice what has been learned in school, to help our students and families find long-term success!
Spark Academy is part of the parent company, The Heritage Community, located in Provo, UT. Originally founded in 1984, The Heritage Community is a long-standing and established treatment program! Schedule: 
  • Part-time. Internship hours will be coordinated and matched to your university requirements and supervisory Therapist.
  • Shift times will be during general business hours, Monday – Friday. Group therapy sessions are held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. These are mandatory sessions. 
  • Internship intended start date is Summer 2024.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Under the supervision of an experienced, licensed Therapist, will serve as Intern Therapist for a part-time caseload of up to 3 students.
  • Provide intense assessment and specific treatment planning in collaboration with parents, students, and Treatment Team – taking ownership of the Master Treatment Plans to lay out goals and objectives.
  • Provide 1 hour of individual therapy and 1 hour of family therapy weekly for each student and provide crisis intervention, as needed.
  • Plan and conduct group therapy session, as coordinated with supervisory Therapist.
  • Lead weekly Treatment Team meetings to plan and coordinate the therapeutic needs and goals/objectives of each student on caseload, and ensure these plans are being followed as indicated.
  • Effectively communicate with parents/guardians and associated professionals in a timely and situation-based manner – keeping them informed of significant events or changes. Assist parents and other family members to become involved in their child’s treatment and care.
Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Understanding of neurodiversity, with familiarity of proven clinical theories and applications for trauma treatment, polyvagal theory, executive functioning deficits, learning and processing differences, distress tolerance, rigid thinking and mood disorders.
  • Excellence in flexibility and adaptability to handle “curve balls” in treatment.
  • Good computer skills, with ability to learn and utilize the company’s internal technical tools.
  • A learning mindset, always seeking to improve and develop.
Qualifications:
  • Current MSW, MFT, or CMHC student.
  • Must have completed requirements in 1st or 2nd year of graduate school to begin internship.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older to apply.
  • Proficiency and fluency in speaking, understanding, reading, and writing English.
