The Heritage Community is Hiring a SPANISH / SPED TEACHER Near Provo, UT

Spark Academy is a co-ed, residential treatment program for adolescents, specializing in autism and neurodiversity. Besides treatment, we provide a full curriculum, year-round school as part of helping our students discover a love of learning and confidence in their education. We are accredited by the Utah State Board of Education as a special education school, and utilize instructional pedagogy that is centered on project-based learning.
We currently seek to hire aSpanish Language Teacherfor our Spark Academy School! We look for a candidate who exemplifies innovation and resourcefulness in curriculum development and teaching methods! We seek someone who can help our students engage with their peers, utilizing higher-level thinking skills applicable to real-life implementation as they work through their projects and curriculum!

Schedule: 
  • Exempt. Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM. 
  • Our academic calendar and contracts are YEAR-ROUND, with two-week breaks in between each term.
  • The incumbent is intended to start by the new term on July 11, 2022.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design and teach lesson plans the subject of Spanish Language.
  • Assure lesson plans have clearly defined goals and objectives for project-based learning.
  • Educate students, ages 13 to 18, with various academic levels and special needs.
  • Frequently communicate and work with the Special Education Coordinator to receive updates regarding IEP goals for each student assigned to your classroom.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development, submitting grade reports on time.
Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Understanding of adolescent development, with competence to teach the adolescent population.
  • Aptitude of special education, particularly methods to successfully teach students on the high-functioning Autism Spectrum or who demonstrate other neurodiverse behaviors or diagnoses.
  • Awareness and understanding of Project-Based Learning, or a willingness to learn and grow within this instructional pedagogy.
  • Teaching skills that are engaging and edifying, while balanced with diligence and tenacity.
  • Excellent organization skills to provide a physical and academic structure conducive to learning.
  • Even temperament, with ability to mediate situations calmly when students need support due to escalation or frustration.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Spanish, or Secondary Education.
  • Current Utah Educator license with Spanish Language endorsement.
  • Special Education endorsement preferred.
  • Must be at least 20 years of age or older to apply.
  • Proficiency and fluency in speaking, understanding, reading, and writing English.
