The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing, and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

HJF is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support research applications, programming, and High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems in support of the GYN-COE. This role provides software programming and database support, works with IT staff, project leaders and business users on a variety of business process improvements and process automation to manage and help.

This is the highest of three levels within the Systems Engineer family. This position differs from lower levels by the complexity of the systems environments, which are more difficult manage. This is a part-time, temporary position for a maximum of 15 hours per week.

This position will be in support of Gynecologic Cancer-Center of Excellence (GYN-COE).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct user support for applications in both Windows and Linux systems and High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster, including scientific data analysis tools and systems software. This support includes deep troubleshooting, building software from source code, and all lifecycle management of HPC and scientific software applications.
• Provide support to team of system administrators with proper integration, monitoring, configuration management, change management, documentation, and maintenance of these systems and HPC clusters as well as scientific and system software applications.
• Provides senior level support for cloud design, implementation, and maintenance of data migration. 
• Provide direction, planning and development of new and existing hardware and software for scientific computing including major hardware upgrades, storage networking, data recovery and archive, hybrid cloud computing, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
• Will develop SOPs and other documentation to support the program's IT needs. 
• Will provide networking support to include install and maintenance, may include running cables. 
• May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience supporting scientific and HPC cluster computing applications such as SLURM, SAS, RStudio, and software lifecycle tools including GCC, Python Anaconda, Java, CUDA
• Experience with TCP/IP networking, Windows, Mac OS, website development and maintenance are preferred.
• Experience eSlide manager, Freezerworks, Redcap.
• Experience with ServiceNow

Physical Capabilities 

• Lifting: Requires lifting materials over 25 lbs.
• Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

• This position will take place primarily in an Office setting.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Minimum of 9 - 10 years’ experience required.
