Overview

Join the HJF Team!

HJF is seeking a Bioinformatics Intern whose work will involve performance of a variety of tasks related to Bioinformatics Research and/or development in collaboration with research, surgical and technical staff. The incumbent will exercise technical discretion in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies. This position will be in support of The Surgical Critical Care Initiative (SC2i) in Bethesda, MD.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities

  • Performs analysis of gene expression and proteomic data acquired from clinical tissues, biofluids and experimental models.
  • Contributes to prognostic models and performs decision analysis.
  • Collaborates with surgeons, bioinformaticians, biostatisticians, and laboratory personnel, and will develop a supervised project
  • Coordinates with mentor in model design and development based from biomarker and clinical data.
  • Writes / contributes to abstracts, publications, and conference presentations
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong computer skills and hands-on experience in analyzing biomarker based assay data, knowledge-based data analysis modeling software applications, working knowledge of scientific programming (PERL, Phyton, JavaScript, R, or Macro for MS-Excel etc)
  • Ability to meet deadlines of projects.
  • Experience with fundamental statistics.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • Team oriented with ability to work independently.
  • Good time management skills; can prioritize multiple
  • Working knowledge of laboratory procedures.

Work Environment 

  • This position will take place primarily in an office and lab setting.

Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
