We are excited to be accepting applications for our open Assistant Manager of Historical Transportation Operations. This full-time year-round position is responsible for consistent leadership and mentorship to our wonderful Historic Transportation Presenters. These are the folks who safely educate and entertain our Greenfield Village guests while enjoying our historic transportation experiences.

Current THF colleagues and volunteers will be given first consideration. This position reports to the Manager, Historic Transportation Operations.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Supports the Manager, Historic Transportation Operations, by supervising presenters, including playing a key role in hiring, onboarding, mentoring, coaching, and performance reviews.

• Provides operational support to the Manager, Historic Transportation Operations by performing administrative duties, including timekeeping, scheduling, coordinating supply orders, and general supervision.

• Responsible for the onboarding and training of new staff, and for supervising and maintaining staff adherence to regular, established operational standards of institutional daily and special programming by means of aesthetic appearance, historic accuracy, and safety to consistently insure the highest and best possible guest experience.

• Shares the responsibility of daily leadership with the Manager, Historic Transportation Operations, providing coverage of historic transportation activities for daytime programming and evening events, such as Hallowe'en and Holiday Nights, and other institutional programming, ensuring that staffing, supply, and experiences are consistent with program and institutional expectations.

• Supports daily and special programming throughout the venues, including program development, acting as a liaison and contact to outside contractors and vendors, and working with team members assigned to roles associated with signature special programs and events.

• Acts as liaison and collaborates and communicates institutionally as needed to ensure accuracy, communications, and fulfillment of historic transportation enhancements for all programming, including internal activations, special functions, and private events.

• Assists with inventory tracking, maintenance and ordering for program planning and fulfillment, ensuring adequate inventory for regularly used supplies and equipment.

• Assists with the development, editing, and updating of content for operational, program, and safety manuals and other written content as necessary.

• Participates in the Master Presenter Program by coaching staff toward their goals in content and guest interaction.

• Performs other duties as necessary.

Your Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent experience

• Minimum 2 years’ experience with direct and consistent supervision of staff

• Available for seven-day operation including weekends, holidays, early mornings, and late evenings

• Valid driver's license

Special Skills

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and attention to detail

• Good organizational, time management skills

• Demonstrated proficiency in timekeeping, scheduling, and interviewing

• Ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle, or the willingness to learn

• Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use simple hand and/or power tools

• Basic understanding of common event industry equipment

• Working knowledge of American History

This position will require frequent standing and walking. Working environment includes office, museum, exhibition, and storage areas (some non-air-conditioned) as well as outside in all conditions. Occasional stove and fireplace smoke.
