Founded in 1975, The Help Group is the largest, most innovative and comprehensive nonprofit of its kind in the United States serving children with special needs related to autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, ADHD, developmental delays, abuse and emotional problems.  

Bridgeport School educates students with mild cognitive delays and challenges with social communication and/or language development. The school serves students ages 5 to 21, many with autism spectrum disorder. 

The mission of the Bridgeport School is to provide students with the ability to access skills that will improve their quality of life and to assist them in becoming productive members of their communities. It is designed for students who can benefit from an academic curriculum, as well as hands-on life skills instruction and vocational services. The Bridgeport curriculum is structured for life-long independence and self-fulfillment.

Exciting Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate and implement individual student programs
  • Select appropriate curriculum content for each student
  • Determine appropriate, measurable goals and objectives for each student
  • Employ a trans-disciplinary approach to education, conferring with team members as appropriate for particular issues
  • Modify activities and adapt materials to promote student success
  • Design and use instructional grouping patterns that are varied and flexible, including individual, small group, and whole class instruction
  • Employ clear, predictable daily and weekly schedules, which accommodate students' needs
  • Employ appropriate, individualized teaching and reinforcement techniques to maximize student achievement

The Ideal Candidate will Posses:

  • Bachelors degree in Art, Education, Special Education or related field
  • Mild/moderate Special Education credential required; OR the ability to qualify for an emergency teaching credential (CBEST certification is required to qualify for an emergency teaching credential)
  • Experience teaching students with autism, learning disabilities, and/or emotional disabilities
  • Experience teaching art to students in a professional setting

Salary:

$48,916.00 - $54,000.00 for PIP/STP/Intern

$56,107.00 - $91,500.00 for Credentialed
