Job Description

The Nursing Assistant Certified (NAC) is a valuable member of the Hearthstone health care team who works under the direction of the RNs and LPNs on duty. He/she provides direct care for Health Center residents, primarily for their activities of daily living.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, a current certification as a Nursing Assistant in the state of Washington, and one year of experience. Candidates must have a genuine desire to work with the elderly or disabled, good communication skills (speaking and writing in English), empathy and the ability to listen, basic computer skills, good time management skills, and a professional appearance and demeanor.

Responsibilities

• Provides respect and confidentiality for every resident
• Helps residents in and out of bed, into wheelchair, etc.
• Helps resident with dressing/undressing, personal grooming (trim nails, brush hair, apply make-up, etc.), oral hygiene, pre and post bathing routines (and helping with bathing when necessary), getting to/from activities and meals, toileting, peri care and adult briefs, dining/helping to eat, and repositioning (at least every 2 hours)
• Answers call lights promptly
• Informs residents of steps taken during care
• Provides postmortem care
• Measures and records vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, etc.
• Keeps accurate records, reporting and initialing as required
• While residents are eating or recreating, straightens living spaces and remakes bed or strips and replaces clean linen for bed
• Helps other NACs when asked
• Cleans bedpans and empties catheter and colo/ileostomy bags routinely
• Reports all changes in condition, incidents, and/or accidents to the Nurse
• Attends in-service programs as designated by the Director of Assisted Care Services
• Follows nursing assistant plan of care for the residents
• Works with computer, printer, scale, wheelchair/walker, Sphygmomanometer, Hoyer and Sit-to-Stand Lifts, and CareTracker software
