The Role …

We are seeking an experienced Packaging Engineer who brings a blend of skills and innovation to the table. You will be responsible for conducting rigorous packaging tests, refining designs for maximum efficiency, and making informed choices regarding materials. The ideal candidate will excel in designing, developing, and executing packaging solutions that prioritize cost efficiency and environmental sustainability.

This role is crucial in fostering collaboration across various teams to ensure compliance with regulations, safeguard product integrity, and boost market appeal for both retail and e-commerce platforms. This position is located at our Secaucus, NJ office, and has the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule. 

Your Responsibilities …

  • Own the product development from the concept phase to commercialization in partnership with cross functional teams - from marketing through manufacturing and distribution
  • Ensure that the packaging complies with all applicable government and customer requirements for both retail and E-Commerce
  • Conform to industry standards and drive best practices to improve consumer satisfaction through quality improvement and value-added packaging design
  • Design and prepare die lines as required for each project, prepare mock ups and present to cross functional teams
  • Test, analyze and select materials for packaging based on functionality, cost effectiveness and sustainability
  • Develop various packaging concepts in coordination with finished products and materials used and ensure compatibility of packaging with the manufacturing operations
  • Create and finalize all packaging component specifications and die lines for paper board, labels, flexible packaging and corrugated boxes 
  • Manage GTIN assignment for new and existing product variants
  • Generate packaging data based on theoretical sizes and validate with physical samples later in the development cycle
  • Validate designs with in-person testing and finalize with line trials
  • Analyze packaging test results, draw conclusions and present findings to leadership
  • Lead creation and maintenance of the packaging bill of materials
  • Manage parallel projects with excellent attention to detail 

Requirements

You’ll Need …

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Package Engineering; Mechanical Engineering or other science degrees will also be considered with relevant Packaging Engineering and Development experience
  • 3 years’ experience in packaging development, testing and/or design
  • Experience working with 2D CAD required (ArtiosCAD or AutoCAD preferred)
  • Experience with 3D CAD is a plus (Solidworks or Autodesk Inventor)
  • Experience with ISTA, freight and other related packaging qualifications testing
  • Working knowledge of filament and resin-based 3D printers for creation of packaging mock-ups
  • Familiarity with operation of CNC cutting tables for creating mock-ups in corrugate and other flat stock
  • Familiarity with operation of vibration transportation testing equipment
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft office suite for generating test reports and presenting findings to leadership 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with technical and non-technical teams
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Project and resource management skills
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator preferred
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically for business (3-4 times per year)
