We have an exciting opportunity for a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our team of talented professionals.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for leading all of the programs and services and ensuring they align with the organization’s mission and theory of change. The COO leads a team of departmental directors who oversee 24 programs across 18 locations, with a program staff of more than 520. As second in command to the CEO, the COO works collaboratively with the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to ensure administrative departments function effectively and support program operations, and that programs meet all strategic goals and expected outcomes. The COO is also responsible for managing the annual budgets for all programs (totaling more than $53M annually) and ensuring financial goals are met. Regular hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. — 5:00 p.m. and consist of a combination of in-person and remote work. When necessary, the COO will work flexible hours, including but not limited to evenings and weekends. Occasional overnight travel is required.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in the human services or a related field with a several years of senior management or executive leadership experience is required.
  • Must demonstrate a passion for the work of the organization and an ability to promote the mission and values of the organization to internal and external stakeholders.
  • A commitment to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives is required. Creating a culture in which we embrace diversity, equity and inclusion and strive to dismantle oppression is critical to the mission of TGC.
  • Must have a proven track record of successfully implementing new programs as well as improving performance in existing programs in nonprofit or health care organization(s).
  • Must also have a track record of successfully managing and developing senior-level leaders and holding them accountable for meeting expectations. 
  • Must have extensive knowledge of the public mental health system, including service delivery, billing, staff training and evidence-based practices. Must also have the ability to learn and navigate other systems relevant to the organization (e.g. early childhood education, juvenile justice, child advocacy).
  • Must have the ability to deliver audience-appropriate content and advanced public speaking skills to engage and persuade stakeholders with varying degrees of familiarity with the work of TGC.
  • Must have extensive experience in ensuring programs meet accreditation requirements (e.g. Joint Commission, CARF).
  • The ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with staff members, leaders, board members, policymakers, funders and other community stakeholders is essential. 
  • A current valid driver’s license with favorable driving record is also required.
