The Good Shepherd foster care services is Hiring a Social Worker Near Westlake, CA

  • (1) A master's degree from an accredited or state approved graduate school, as defined in Section 94310 of the Education Code, in social work or social welfare, marriage, family, and child counseling, child psychology, child development, counseling psychology or social psychology.

(2) In addition to the degree specifications in Subsection (1) above, all of the following coursework and field practice or experience shall be required of all new hires effective January 1, 1993:

a. At least three semester units or 100 days of field practice or experience in a public or private social service agency setting at the Master's Degree level.

b. At least nine semester units of coursework related to children and families, or 18 months experience in working with children and families.

c. At least three semester units in working with minority populations; six months of experience in working with minority populations; or six months in-service training in working with minority

populations within the first year of employment as a condition of employment.

  • Experience in child or family services, such as foster care.
  • Knowledge of foster care and familiarity with Title XXII regulations.
  • Must possess valid California Driver’s license and state required registration and insurance.
  • Two or more years of direct experience in Foster Care or related field.
  • Strong leadership, communication, time management and organizational skills.
  • Motivated and able to work as a part of a Team.
  • Able to work effectively with others and manage personnel and program issues.

Requirements:

  • Documentation of the required education and experience requirements shall be maintain in the personnel file.
  • Employee must undergo a pre-employment physical examination. This examination will be given at the employee expense by a license physician and will include a TB test as required by Community Care Licensing.

Employee must submit to a live scan fingerprints process. Each employee must receive clearance from Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Child Abuse Index per Community Care Licensing.

  • Employee must sign a statement acknowledging the child and elder abuse and neglect reporting.
  • Participate in employee orientations and ongoing training/staff meetings.
  • Have a current California Driver License and automobile insurance
  • Employee must have the ability to use office machines, word processors, computers, etc. to prepare the necessary documentation, reports, etc. regarding the clients being served by The Good Shepherd Foster Family Agency, responsibilities in Penal Code Section 11164 et seq. 16.

Responsibilities and Obligations:

Supervisor shall be responsible of the following:

1) Have the education and experience, and the core competencies necessary to competently participate

in the assessment and evaluation of an applicant or Resource Family;

2) Be trained to perform assigned tasks;

3) Participate in the assessment and evaluation of an applicant or Resource Family meet core competency

requirements, including having necessary knowledge and skills.

"Knowledge" includes an understanding of the following:

  • An overview of the child protective and probation systems
  • The Resource Family Approval assessment and approval process.
  • The contents of the interim licensing standards.
  • The personal rights of children in foster care and how to ensure those rights are afforded to children.
  • Child and family confidentiality principles.
  • Techniques for interviewing children, nonminor dependents, and adults.
  • Developmental stages of childhood and effects of trauma on development, as well as the impact of poverty on the lives of families and children.
  • The priorities of safety, permanency, and well-being for children in foster care.
  • The impact of trauma, grief, and loss on a child involved in the child welfare system and its impact on placement and permanency goals.
  • The impact of mental health and substance abuse on children and families.
  • Permanency timelines and the role caregivers playing supporting timely permanency.
  • That teaming or collaboration assists in developing solutions that are individualized to the family and their culture, community, and tribes.
  • The practice of cultural humility and how this approach improves family engagement, shows respect for families, and ensures assessments incorporate a family's unique culture.
  • Ongoing training and services prepare caregivers to meet the needs of children and nonminor dependents and assists families with forming lifelong relationships.
  • Resource Family Approval prepares families to better meet the needs of vulnerable children in the foster care system and assists with a seamless transition to permanency.
