An Infant/Toddler Teacher at The Goddard School is responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy and nurturing learning environment.
Infant/Toddler TeacherResponsibilities 
An Infant/Toddler Teacher responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: 
Establish and maintain a safe, healthy and nurturing learning environment 
1. Develop an appropriate classroom management system to support the goals and developmental level of the children in the classroom 
2. Understand and implement The Goddard School® emergency procedure(s) 
3. Promote healthy eating practices at lunch and snack times 
1. Ensure that children are always within state ratio requirements 
2. Perform nominal cleaning responsibilities (eg, spills) immediately 
3. Adhere to a classroom schedule that meets the needs of the children and includes a routine and learning opportunities 
4. Adhere to all GSI Health and Safety policies and procedures 
Advance children’s physical and intellectual competence 
1. Adapt program to meet the individual needs of each child 
2. Create a multi-cultural learning environment 
3. Provide a variety of developmentally appropriate materials 
4. Interact with the children to support play, exploration and learning 
5. Encourage children to talk with each other and with the faculty 
1. Present age- and developmentally-appropriate expectations for all children 
2. Create a print-rich environment in order for children to learn about books, literature and writing 
3. Encourage creativity through art, music, dramatic play and blocks 
4. Provide a reasonable balance between teacher-directed and child-directed activities 
5. Provide opportunities for both active and quiet play 
1. Integrate GSI resources (including Enrichment Programs) into lesson plans 
Support each child’s social and emotional development and provide positive guidance 
1. Plan and implement activities to develop children’s self-esteem and social skills 
2. Plan and implement activities to enable children’s feeling of security 
3. Encourage empathetic and respectful feelings for others, as well as the environment, through positive modeling 
1. Respect cultural and ethnic diversity 
Establish positive and effective family relations 
1. Communicate, in a professional manner, with families and faculty 
2. Encourage families to become an integral part of their children’s learning experiences 
3. Provide opportunities (e.g., conferences) in which families are made to feel a part of their children’s learning experiences 
1. Prepare a Daily Activity Report for each child 
2. Maintain a portfolio for each child 
3. Maintain the classroom Parent Board 
Ensure an effective program, responsive to children’s needs 
1. Assess supplies and materials needed to implement activities 
1. Build teamwork 
2. Develop lesson plan books and posted lesson plans 
3. Manage classrooms according to GSI QA Standards 
4. Perform child observations and document in their portfolios 
5. Use assessment tools (eg, Progress Reports, Children’s Progress) 
Maintain professional commitment 
1. Promote GSI philosophy and educational objectives 
2. Support a code of ethical conduct 
3. Pursue professional development/continuing education 
4. Attend faculty meetings, in-service days, conferences and professional growth opportunities
