About the GO Project

The GO Project helps New York City public school students thrive in the earliest stages of their education through year-round academic, social-emotional, and family support.

GO Project is based in NYC and all positions for GO Summer 2024 will be in-person. Locations are in lower Manhattan and Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Position Description

The GO Project is seeking Success Coaches to be integral members of the Campus Leadership Teams and support youths’ social-emotional well-being and empower GO staff and families to create positive learning environments at home and school through proactively addressing various student learning and behavioral challenges. Success Coaches will have the opportunity to participate in professional development, in addition to receiving regular feedback and support. This is an excellent opportunity to build your youth development skills while working with a passionate and supportive team.

Responsibilities

  • Push into classrooms to model and encourage positive participation in all daily activities, with a focus on teambuilding. Work with youth in positive and motivational ways that encourage learning in the classroom.
  • Supervise and manage flagged youth behaviors at all times by providing child-friendly teaching tools designed to support classroom staff as they help children learn essential strategies to identify and regulate the “big” feelings and emotions that are critical to their success in school and in life.
  • Implement social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum through explicit facilitation, and social-emotional literacy embedded in learning opportunities during enrichment block.
  • Serve as a member of the campus leadership team by collaborating in analyzing data, revising practices, norm setting classroom culture, implementing behavioral plans and case conferences on diverse learners with a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Drive case management from any referrals from the Student Support Form by implementing interventions designed to cope with stress; establish and maintain strong relationships with families; foster better communication, and social skills to assigned cases.
  • Participate in professional development and daily staff meetings in addition to formal feedback and coaching from leadership.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and able to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, mental health counseling, art therapy, psychology, or other related field or a current MSW student with extensive past work experience.
  • Have at least 2 years of youth development experience working with school-aged children, preferably in a public school or summer camp setting.
  • Familiarity with NYC school application process, special education services, strength-based languages, restorative justice framework, and child development.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Mandarin is a plus, but not required.

Additional Requirements

All staff pass a background check and provide a medical clearance form signed by a medical professional prior to training.

Program Dates and Training:

All dates and training sessions are mandatory. Please note that absences are extremely disruptive to the learning process, please ensure you are able to attend all program days. All training sessions are mandatory and cannot be rescheduled although the exact times are TBD.

In-Person Training: 6/27 and 6/28*

Summer Program Dates: 7/1 through 8/2

*additional asynchronous training may be required as part of the training schedule.

Typical Schedule

The typical schedule for this role is Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm (with 1 hour lunch break each day).

Compensation:

Starting salary for this position is $28 per hour for approximately 35 hours per week over 5 weeks.
