Responsibilities

Summary

Under general guidance, this position is responsible for managing the payroll accounting and garnishment functions and the accurate and timely preparation of account reconciliations, payroll accruals, forecast guidance and management reports.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the Payroll Garnishment and Payroll Specialists and the functions that they support.
  • Adheres to company policies and procedures established for accounting and payroll functions.
  • Functions as a liaison between payroll, business management, HR and IT departments to increase the efficiencies between them..
  • Develops and analyzes reports which easily and accurately depict current and projected costs.
  • Reconciles payroll balance sheet accounts on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Corrects coding of all payroll related G/L entries and ensures correct allocation of payroll, liabilities and expenses.
  • Prepares audit schedules for quarterly and annual audits.
  • Provides monthly payroll accruals.
  • Follow-ups and finalizes management labor reports.
  • Analyzes the payroll G/L close for posting to correct accounts. Researches and provides correction to payroll system configuration or requests G/L account set-up.
  • Compiles, summarizes, and provides necessary payroll reports as needed.
  • Follows company policies and adheres to Sarbanes Oxley guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting and five (5) years progressive experience in an accounting related capacity with demonstrated exposure working with standard concepts, practices and procedures applied in an analysis capacity is preferred.
  • Five (5) years of experience handling multi-state payroll taxes with a large (1,000 employees) multi-state employer preferred.
  • Relies on experience and expertise to plan work accordingly and to accomplish the position's goals and objectives
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve the typical questions and issues that arise as a result of completing daily work activities.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact with Business Managers in the field to resolve questions and problems.
  • Ability to produce reports in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with varying deadlines.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software used by the department typically including the Financial Information System (FIS) and spreadsheets.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel.
