The Forgotten Initiative is Hiring a Communications Director Near Bloomington, IL

Job Summary

As the servant-leader and steward of the department, the Director of Communications is responsible for overseeing all strategic creative communication initiatives. This role focuses on developing and implementing effective communication strategies to increase exposure, enhance brand positioning, and drive engagement with TFI’s target audience. The Director of Communications will ensure the department’s efforts align with the organization’s mission and goals and collaborate with other departments to provide effective resources and support. Additionally, the Director of Communications will lead a team of staff and/or consultants and track outcomes to measure success.

Responsibilities

The Director of Communications has 4 primary responsibilities:

  • Expand TFI’s reach to diverse audiences and engage them in our mission
  • Strategically position TFI as a leading and trusted voice in foster care ministry
  • Collaborate and ensure effective resourcing to other TFI departments
  • Direct and manage team to ensure goals are achieved with excellence

Each responsibility is further broken down into key areas:

1. Expand TFI’s reach to diverse audiences and engage them in our mission:

  • Expand engagement with current and connected audiences utilizing a range of content types and platforms including social media, email, blog, website, and podcasts.
  • Develop new aspirational audience profiles and define specific calls to action for each identified audience, establishing clear pathways and outcomes that lead to desired engagement.
  • Set strategic direction regarding which partnerships with thought leaders, influencers, churches, ministries, and organizations to pursue to increase exposure for TFI and expand into new territories

2. Strategically position TFI as a leading and trusted voice in foster care ministry:

  • Ensure the effective presentation of the brand, messaging, and resources to the public, maintaining clarity, and compelling content.
  • Drive the growth and development of content that builds upon TFI’s culture of care, adding value to audiences that is consistent with TFI’s beliefs, values, and behaviors.

3. Collaborate and ensure effective resourcing to other TFI departments:

  • Establish and ensure implementation of annual comprehensive communications plan including specific and measurable goals that serve the organization and mission.
  • Oversee the creation of online and printed collateral for effective donor communication in collaboration with the Development Director.
  • Lead creative efforts in resourcing volunteer foster care ministry leaders with awareness and engagement assets in collaboration with the Ministries Director.

4. Direct and manage team to ensure goals are achieved with excellence:

  • Measure and report on the department’s outcomes, tracking effectiveness of efforts.
  • Set and manage the department budget.
  • Hire, direct, and manage communications team including contractors.
  • Set project timelines, assess staffing needs, and utilize effective internal communication to oversee the creation, delivery, editing, and proofreading of all communications.

Qualifications

  • Ability to self-motivate and solve problems with innovation
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Effective at multi-tasking and time management to set and meet deadlines
  • Effective at process and organizational management to coordinate, structure, and provide vision to projects
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to communicate to clearly explain plans, processes, and action items to direct reports
  • Ability to contribute thoughtful and constructive feedback to develop and guide direct reports.
  • Proven knowledge & experience in multimedia content creation
  • A strong portfolio showcasing graphic design, video production, and media management skills
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Audition, AfterEffects, InDesign, Illustrator, and Premiere
  • WordPress experience is a plus
  • Responds well to feedback, is passionate about learning and growing skillset
  • 3-5 years of related work experience, minimum 1 year of related management experience

Working Conditions and Requirements

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
