Job Title: School Nurse

FLSA Status: Exempt

ACA Status: TBD

Job Summary

The School Nurse contributes to the health and safety of the School community by providing nursing care, managing student records, and promoting health education. The School Nurse reports to the Director of Academic and Student Affairs and is a full-time, exempt employee. This is a 10 month position.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

· Actively support the mission of The Fletcher School in the execution of his/her role and responsibilities.

· Provide nursing services to students for health issues that arise during the school day.

· Administer and monitor student medication.

· Manage health records.

· Communicate with parents, teachers, and coaches regarding student illness and injury.

· Provide health information and resources to students and parents regarding chronic illness and school participation.

· Monitor and document ongoing student health issues such as chronic illness and concussion.

· Provide professional advice to administrators concerning legal issues related to health care, including HIPAA.

· Participate with other health, wellness, and academic administrators in providing cross-disciplinary support to students.

· Contribute to the revision of student and personnel handbooks in relevant areas.

· Contribute to admissions review and decisions for complex profiles with health issues.

· Collaborate with other Administrators to provide first aid and CPR training.

· Oversee annual flu shot clinic for faculty and staff.

· Provide nursing assistance to faculty and staff if necessary.

· Serve on the Crisis Management Team.

· Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

· BS degree in Nursing

· Licensed Registered Nurse with the state of North Carolina

· 3-5 years nursing experience

· Experience working with school-age children

· School nursing experience preferred

· Knowledge of applicable school health laws

· High degree of professionalism and discretion

· Knowledge of crisis intervention and health counseling

General Requirements

· A criminal history background check is required of all employees.

· References will be required; transcripts may be required.
