The Farmer's House is Hiring a Staff Nurse - PRN / Part Time Near Kansas, MO

Agency Overview
The Farmer’s House is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing innovative programming that maximizes independence and self-determination for individuals with developmental disabilities from a seven-county region in and around Kansas City.

The Farmer's House launched its first program in 2010 and today operates with a budget of $1.6 million and a staff of 40 full- and part-time employees. Each year, The Farmer’s House serves more than 350 individuals with a mission to empower youth and adults with developmental disabilities to pursue their best lives by focusing on skills, employment, inclusion and self-reliance.

Summary/Objective:

This position is responsible for assisting the Director of Medicaid Programs to ensure proper medical oversight for clients and required Medicaid training for all staff. The nurse will provide support by facilitating training classes, reviewing and delegating medical protocols, monitoring for proper adherence to medicaid standards and ensuring personal safety for all individuals.

Essential Jobs Overview:

  • Maintain professional relationships with individuals served, guardians, family members, co-workers and support coordination agencies.
  • Assist the Director of Medicaid Programs to ensure client medical records are accurate and up to date.
  • Function according to TFH high quality/best practice standards, in compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Advocate for individual's served health and wellbeing while in the program.
  • Facilitate Level 1 Med Aid classes quarterly or as needed to comply with Medicaid guidelines for staff training.
  • Facilitate CPR and First Aid classes quarterly or as needed to comply with Medicaid guidelines for staff training.
  • Assist Director of Medicaid Programs with CARF accreditation administration, oversight and compliance with standards related to medical oversight.
  • Coordinate medical protocol delegations with staff to ensure client health and safety.
  • Review Medical Administration Records and update as needed.
  • Ensure proper storage of all medications at the program.
  • Communicate with families and physicians to ensure medical changes and medication updates are noted in client files.
  • Attend Department of Mental Health and Medicaid trainings related to nursing care and procedures.
  • Accommodate individuals, to the extent necessary, so that clients can participate as fully as possible in all decisions that affect them.
  • Ensure that staff are following all delegated protocols correctly and train or re-train if necessary to support client health and safety.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist the Director of Medicaid Programs with all medical oversight for clients.
  • Ensure all medical information is accurate and up to date in client files and meets Medicaid standards.
  • Responsible for supporting staff in following proper procedures for medication administration and storage.
  • Communicate with physicians to obtain medical information and protocols.
  • Provide medical training to staff as needed during professional development days.
  • Ensure all necessary emergency medication protocols are documented properly and meet Medicaid requirements.
  • Provide support at agency events and fundraisers to ensure mission moves forward.
  • Must be certified American Red Cross CPR/First Aid trainer.
  • Must be certified trainer for Level 1 Med Aid classes according to Department of Mental Health Guidelines

  • Has knowledge of medicaid based requirements for medication administration..

Supervisory Responsibility:

No supervisory responsibility but does facilitate training for staff regarding medical protocols.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment and out in the community. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets. May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and/or infectious diseases.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • This position requires extended periods of walking and standing with some periods of sitting – depending on the needs and activities of the individuals supported.
  • It may require light to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds and occasional stooping, kneeling, bending, and/or climbing stairs again depending on the needs of the individual supported.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • PRN / Contract hourly, no guaranteed hours (You will be employed by TFH).
  • Hours are flexible to ensure training is completed timely to meet Medicaid guidelines.
  • Attend and assist with other company events

Travel:

  • This position will be required to travel between all TFH locations and within the community. We have locations in Platte City, MO and North Kansas City, MO.

Required Education and Experience:

  • 5 years of relevant nursing experience required
  • LPN or RN required
  • 2 years of exposure to individuals with developmental disabilities.

Work Authorizations:

  • Must obtain and maintain training and certification in all required areas such as Abuse/Neglect, CPR, First Aid, Level I Medication Administration, Positive Behavior Supports, TOOLS, Crisis Intervention, and Class E driver's license.
  • All employees will complete I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification.
