The Eye Institute is Hiring an Optician Near Davidson, NC

Design, measure, fit, and adapt lenses and frames for clients according to written optical prescription or specification. Assist clients with selecting frames. Measure customers for size of eyeglasses and coordinate frames with facial and eye measurements and optical prescription. Prepare work order for optical laboratory containing instructions for grinding and mounting lenses in frames. Verify exactness of finished lens spectacles. Adjust frame and lens position to fit the client. May shape or reshape frames.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter (in person or via phone)
  • Maintain a friendly, polite, professional, empathetic, and helpful attitude at all times during both internal (fellow employees) and external (patients) exchanges.
  • Assists patients with selection of eyewear, making such facial measurements and adjustments as are necessary to properly fit glasses to the patient.
  • Interviews patients to determine visual needs.
  • Immediately available for the Doctor-Optical Transfer once the doctor has finished with the patient.
  • Interprets refractionist's prescription.
  • Instructs and counsels patients on proper methods of eyeglass care.
  • Enters prescription and sales information into a computerized system and performs all other clerical functions required to satisfy patient needs.
  • Verifies Optical Benefit coverage.
  • Accurately interprets and applies Optical Benefit coverage
  • Dispenses and adjusts optical product.
  • Inspects final product for accuracy in accordance with prescription requirements, original order and ANSI Z80 standards.
  • Reconciles patient's concerns to their satisfaction.
  • Performs all other dispensing functions consistent with the accepted professional.
  • Will work within HIPAA compliance with outside professionals to obtain outside prescriptions and optical history information.
  • Conducts daily inventory of frames and accessories as required.
  • Maintains constant coverage on the optical floor to meet customer needs and to reduce inventory shrink.
  • Perform necessary shop work as required, including but not limited to cutting, edging, dyeing, and mounting of lenses.
  • Repairs frames as required.
  • Completes all required forms.
  • Dispensers may also repair; solder; check out prescriptions; edge; mount and complete eyeglasses for final delivery to patients.
  • Dispensers may sell other products or perform other services as deemed necessary by the Employer.
  • May also be required to serve patients at check in, check out, and exam work up as needed.
  • Recommend to branch manager improvements in sales and service.
  • Maintain written and verbal communication with the lab as required.
  • Will perform customer service and floor coordinating duties.
  • Will maintain a clean optical floor and merchandise product as instructed or requested by management.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary.
  • May be required to switch home office locations to meet company needs.

Qualifications & Skills:

REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills.
  • Computer knowledge and ability to enter prescriptions into computerized system and place retail eyeglass orders.
  • Typing 25 wpm.
  • 50 mile travel.
  • Must be able to work Saturday hours.
  • Must be able to work overtime hours if needed.
  • Must be able to work in any location owned by The Eye Institute to maintain office coverage.
  • Ability to be cross trained in other office duties to meet patient service needs.
  • A willingness to serve others and a positive attitude toward team members, vendors, and patients is a must.
  • Must be able to work in an environment where multiple conversations are occurring at the same time, machines operating in the background.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, bend, reach overhead, sit for up to 4 hours at a time, stand for up to 6 hours throughout the day, type on the computer and operate phone system simultaneously.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

This position requires the ability to deal with confidential information and the ability to use discretion and judgment in a variety of situations. Maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance is required at all times.

PREFERRED:

  • Previous experience as an Optical Dispenser (Optician).
  • Contact lens fitting experience preferred.
  • American Board of Optician (ABO) certification, preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour
